I should have looked into doing an intro before I started shooting my mouth off, but better late than never.
I live near Saskatoon, I'm over 60, and like a lot of prairie boys, I've handled firearms since I was a wee'un.
My shooting is mainly target and "them varmints" that tend to haunt the rural Slobovia I call home. I hunt, but only for meat.
I own a fair mix of firearms, the biggest being a 25-06, down to ye olde .22 which is still my favorite cartridge. Living out in the country means you can drag a .22 along all day long on a walk without fear of being arrested... and this is something I appreciate, because I know how difficult such doings are for city folk.
I've done a lot of gunsmithing, and am just about finished rebuilding 3 old Stevens falling block single shots, the action either a .25 or .32 rimfire, a C.I.L. barrel and Thompson Centre sights into a useable firearm. I'm astounded at the tightness of the Stevens action after all these years. Perhaps they don't make them like used to after all.
Like a lot of gun owners, I'm rather disappointed in the Conservatives, but after Harper announced he was cutting funding to the arts during the election, I knew there was not going to be a Conservative majority... perhaps as we now see in the media, there never was a Conservative plan to do away with the long gun registry.
I read a lot of anger into the current trend of the politically correct wanting to lock up guns and not criminals.
Myself, I'm thinking of getting some t-shirts made up that on the front say, "If my country won't let me defend myself..." and on the back the words "Why would I defend my country?" ... TO BE WORN anyplace they sing the national anthem, wherein I would NOT STAND.
Perhaps a bit theatrical, but then past 60 what is life but theatre?
