Between the two, which one would you go with?

Paper shooting at the range, and i dont want to spend more then 2k on a rifle. with the savage i would have to buy a scope another 1k at least i would think.
 
To those who own a Mossberg rifle, may i ask why you don't care for it so much? I mean not that it's really a comparison. Their Shotguns i think are pretty good.
 
I just tried the MVP at an MD Charleton day here in Ottawa. Let me re-phrase that, I wanted to try it but it wouldn't go bang unless you fiddled with the bolt and held it just right !!!! Stock with the Savage.

Mossberg Shotguns are great as a general rule. I am no fan because I find them light and rattly, unlike the 870. However, their rifles suck. The biggest complaint is the bolt, which is loose, ugly and poorly fitted in general. Any offset force causes them to bind, and they they are very sloppy. I'm sure the accuracy is just fine, but accuracy alone is not interesting to me.
 
I have severe reservations on the design and manufacture of older Mossberg rifle bolts.
They say they fixed it and to be honest I have not heard anything about them since.
But it still bugs me...
Not a super fan of some of Savages ascetics but in no way do they bug me, they work and they are accurate so it would definitely be my choice of the two.
As for shotguns...I'm not a fan of some of the newer changes to the 500 but they take a beating and a Mossberg is still in my rack.
 
I had an MVP. It shot well, but that bolt was the wobbliest , most ill fitting bolt I've ever used. It binded LOTS. I've owned about 9 savage centerfires. Never had a problem with function. I had a too-tight fitting magazine on one , but that is it out of 9 guns. Anyhow, My vote is for the Savage. I had 4 different loads that shot under an inch with the MVP, but the bolt binding was a nuisance. Savages all generally shoot well, so if you don't care about smooth function, get the MVP or Savage (which ever one fits your budget better), but if you do , get a Savage.
 
Bump~ Im looking for a .308 bolt gun, I was thinking Mossberg MVP LC at one time. Not so sure now. What about between Savage or & the Ruger precision Rifle. Anyone have experience with both or can recommend The Ruger over the Savage? Thanks. Something in the $1500 range {minus glass}
 
There's so many options when it comes to bolt guns in .308. What exactly do you want to use it for?

At $1500, you could get into a really nice Remington 5R or a Tikka T3 as well which are great guns. If you're looking for a gun in a chassis already, The RPR has been getting fairly good reviews. I haven't shot one yet but I know there's lots of interest down in the states for them. That being said, they are just a Ruger American in a chassis system with no accuracy guarantees. I have still looked at them and considered buying on though.
 
1500$ I'd go 5r again. It was my first bolt action that treated me quite well. Learned a lot and kinda miss it now that I think back.
 
Most places are Sold out of RPR in .308. There is one on EE for $1500..not really a deal, considering I tracked One down locally in a LGS. for $1499.99 new off shelf..hmmm... No Love here, but I have a Mossberg Flex in .308. A Nice rifle, wobbly bolt like them all, but accurate, & takes M14 mags. Is why I liked it. Just in the mood to upgrade. I would like one in a Chassis already, why I thought the Mossberg LC, or just buy the Chassis & ad it to my Flex, but then I saw the RPR. I dont know allot about Savage personally. Guess It'll be hitting the EE soon. If I can't convince myself on a Savage, I really like the Ruger so far. Decisions decisions...??

My son bought Mossberg patriot in 270 synthetic with vortex scope...He shoots 1" groups from 3 different factory loads, and better with my reloads. So I bought same (minus scope) in 30-06...shoots the same, couldn't be more happier!
