Beware of liars and scammers!

We do not usually resort to posting information about people we deal with in our private lives but this needs to be seen by as many people in the gun community as possible.
Our owner recently tried to purchase a Colt AR through another forum using EMT. After the money was transferred this individual claimed his email account had been hacked and the money from the transaction had been supposedly stolen. We have tried to work with this scammer for some time now to try and finish this transaction. This clown tried to extort more money for this item and now won’t respond to emails and has seemingly disappeared.
So if you come across anyone using the following emails beware, you just might end up getting the short end of the stick!

People are awful. Thanks for the heads up. Today I got a reply to my kijiji ad for a dirtbike from someone requesting to pay by (FRAUD ALERT) and a shipping company. I was driving so I told my wife to respond "go **** yourself" she added "with a rusty knife". I want to marry her all over again.

Sorry for my ignorance... what's the issue re: (FRAUD ALERT) and a shipping company? Is it the concern that they will claim that they did not receive the product and then (FRAUD ALERT) takes the money back? But if you use a shipping company, you have documentation of the delivery, don't you?

Really sad that we cannot trust people to honour their word......that is why I try to deal person to person as much as possiable as there are so many scammers out there.....

where does he live? i think you can trace where this guys money is going to because it's going into
his bank account so theres a paper trail. have you talked to the bank?

get his address and post it here after. have some friendly forum members visit him or something.

Was it firearms Canada? I was considering buying a Mossberg 590 from that site but after one look at the reported sellers section I decided not to.

Kijiji is an online local classified, like the local paper used to be. All (FRAUD ALERT)/w.union/shipping scenarios are scams. If you sell something this way, you'll be out your money and your item. Unfortunately, you must be very aware and careful, as the crooks are getting better at it.

Kijiji is a "cash in hand takes item" classified.

The (FRAUD ALERT) scam is well documented. They seemingly send you asking price + additional funds to forward to shipper - using spoof email. They tell you the funds are on hold until you pay the shipper... You send money to the 'shipper', and they walk away with your money. '(FRAUD ALERT)' is never actually involved. Mostly vehicles for sale on kijiji are targeted on this one. But other high price items as well. Beware! Only deal in person. Preferably with cash.

Hahaha

Yes do not deal with anyone who says they will pay by (FRAUD ALERT) and use a shipping company because they are out of town. This is what the email usually looks like. The grammar and English are usually terrible.

"Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or
repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed
price,Payment will be sent using (FRAUD ALERT) and i will handle the (FRAUD ALERT)
surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up
for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment.
I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available)
too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the (FRAUD ALERT)
email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

Regards"

I got 2 scammers like this when I had a motorcycle up for sale. One of them threatened to send the FBI after me if I didn't go through with the deal. Had a laugh over that one.

It is unfortunate we have to double check everything these days. Make sure you are dealing with a verified (FRAUD ALERT) member with a verified address and you are fine. At least I have never had a problem that way.

I was selling a Harley two years ago and got the same email. The clown had my phone number because it was on Kijiji and called telling me everything was good to go and what was my (FRAUD ALERT) account number so he could send me the money. I was pretty leery about it so I checked the number on a reverse phone look up and found out the cell phone he was using was in a suburb in Washington D.C. while he told me he was in Grande Prairie Alberta. The next time he phoned I said I worked at the local police department and he hung up real quick. Bast@rd!

Its a scam, (FRAUD ALERT) has nothing to do with these types of transaction. I suggest for your own knowledge to read up on PP scams. A good friend was taken for almost $10,000 on a auto trader deal. So be safe and remember if the deal sounds to good to be true it is.

I've received this exact email

You should be aware that for non-restricted firearms, even in the absence of the Federal Firearms Registry, the purchaser must still possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) to purchase a firearm, and that seller must still possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or Possession Only License (POL) to legally possess the firearms that he/she is trying to sell. As a lesson in the future. Get the seller to send you there RPAL. To prove name and address. Don't ever send money for a restricted firearm.without first completing the transfer and getting your
Confirmation number.

It says he paid with an EMT not PP, I'd get in touch with the bank and see if they can trace it.
