Beware the person with only one kind of rifle...?

I could see the arguement for several styles of rifle in the same calibre.......

But vice versa? I don't see the logic. Why do you want to?
 
I guess it depends on the two possibilities:
1. Going with an AR that can swap an upper, or to a Thompson that can swap barrels, so you keep the one stock and trigger set up that is custom to you
OR
2. Going with a Remington 700 or Browning X-bolt or (pick one make and model) in the calibres you want, all in seperate whole rifles.

I personally like option #1 since you retain the stock and trigger you like best. Pity AR's are restricted....
 
I think it is a good idea, trying to get most of mine to A-5 stocks. AR is a black rifle go to another forum.
 
So the rational is that one type of platform would be to increase familiarity of usage, comfort (if you find a style that fit you perfect) and intimate knowledge of a particular design?

That's starting to make sense to me.

And, if they all look exactly the same, your wife would never need know that you have more than one rifle...... This may be a brilliant idea.

Yep. That's exactly it. If you like Remington pumps you can run a 760 in .223, .243, .30-06, shotguns in 12 and 20 gauge and even the 572 rimfire. The operation would be much the same and you would cover the works. Practice on one would transfer to the others and shooting skill would become second nature.

The downside is a lack of variety, or constant compromise on one particular aspect that you'd have to live with/adjust to, like so-so triggers on the above example.

Hadn't thought of the Significant Other factor. :D
 
I've got 26 of the same rifle, I believe 2 are donors in existing calibers.

Not really sure how it happened.

I do remember the first one though, down the slippery slope I went.

It works for me, I have 3 BSA rifles, a 222 ( thanks Gunrunner 100 ), a 7X57, and a 458 Win Mag.
Certainly an odd combination but all three have same triggers, safeties, floor plate releases, similar weights and all are very accurate rifles.
Altogether they can cover a wide spectrum of hunting and by being familiar with them it makes them comfortable to hunt with.
 
I try to purchase a rifle in a caliber I don't have yet, and also in a make or model I don't have yet. I like rifles too much to commit to a single type or style. I know the day will never come, but it would be nice to have one of each!!!
 
I'ts not like this is a new concept. Lots of guys have one brand of bolt action rifle in .223, 300WM, 338, 375 etc....And lots will have a similar collection of Ruger #1's and now of course the XCR in 223, 7.62x39, 6.8, 308 etc is getting popular.
 
Oh ya, I have a set of all one type. A full compliment of bolt action Mausers, controlled round feed, long extractor, slim walnut stocks and full contact bedding, with quick detach fixed power scopes. In .222, 7x57, 8x57, 7x64, and .375 H & H.

But then I decided I needed a set of modern push feed action bolts, with free floated barrels and variable scopes and adjustable triggers. So I have those in .22 RF, .22 mag, .22 hornet, .222, .243, .308, 30-06, and 35 Whelen.

Then I decided I would need a set of good lever action rifles with receiver sights and tuned up slick actions and good crisp triggers, have those in.22 rf, .38/357, soon to be .44 mag, and 45-70.

And then I decided that no hunt was complete without a high quality German combination gun and so I added a O/U in 16 ga over 7x57R, a drilling in 16x16/7x57R and another drilling in 16x16/8x57IR.

I have to work on the set of single shots, only have a lonely Ruger #1A at the moment...

and i didn't mention the shotguns, or the muzzleloaders, whew! this using only one kind of gun is a workout!
 
I have a set of single shot rifles in thirteen calibers on six frames... the barrels are all individually scoped with dedicated forends that are bedded to the barrel and all barrels are interchangeable with all frames... for any given hunt, I put together a three gun set along with an applicable load or loads for each, that will cover what game and scenario's I anticipate running into... works for me.

I collect fullstock rifles and have a few in different chamberings. I hunt with Steyr-Mannlichers in different configurations and chamberings.
 
I have 4 unused Remington actions right now One SS Model Seven and three 700 SA. I like these and the Remington pumps. Can't quite commit to one or the other.
