Bi-pod on 870

I think this idea is stupid and NOT cool, im just going to say what everyone is to afraid to say. Buy a proper rifle for deer hunting, keep the shotgun for home defense, birds, or just general shooting of sh*t for the hell of it!

Thank you for your concern, but i dont really care about what you think. In fact, i wasn't asking for opinions but for help to solve a problem. I am sure someone with that many weapons could be more helpful than that wether you aprove or not my "project".

Thank you!!!

well here is what I would do if you want to do it on the cheap and easy.

Go by a sling swivel set, the last one I bought had a short and a longer "woodscrew" type thread, and one longer with a machine screw thread, drill into the bottom of the barrel lug and tap it, to the thread pitch of the swivel stud, thread in the stud and cut it off so it dose not stick through.

The bi-pod mount may interfere with the fore grip though, so you might have to modify that.

And post pics, I reserve judgement until as to the 'coolness' or uselessness of it until then

He's got a good point there.

so you dont think you should clearly id your target before you kill it, do you have any kids, or spouse. the light lets you make sure your shooting the bad guy and not your loved ones. that is why my hd shotty has a surefire tri rail picatinney fore end and a surefire g2 nitrolon 65 lumen light fixed to it:kickInTheNuts:

Have you shot your shotgun with slugs to 200 yards?? I would do some range work before I wasted the money on a "precision" setup. The shotgun is the proverbial pick-up truck of firearms, it can handle most tasks. Unfortunately, it doesn't do many of them very well.

TDC

I use the remington model 870 express,3'',rifled barrel,& shooting the remington core lokt ultra,,saboted slug,2 3/4,,200 yard's with a scope,is no problem,,,I'm not saying I'm getting sub moa,,,but I can guarantee you I can put in a pie plate every time,,,,

But,,,on the other hand,,,a bipod would be nice,,,but not attached to the barrel or any other attachment,,,,,shooting 200 yards is possibble,,,but with a mount on the barrel,,IMO,,would create un-even barrel pressure,,and inconsistent accurracy

Thank you. But i don't understand exactly what your explaining. I'm sure it is quite clear for everybody but my english is not that good. So what do you mean by "drill into the bottom of the barrel lug and tap it, to the thread pitch of the swivel stud, thread in the stud and cut it off so it dose not stick through."?? What's the barrel lug?? And by tap it, you mean weld it?

Do you have some pictures or drawings??

I'm sorry....

Thank you very much!!!

google tap and die kits, that will explain what hes talking about. now he said to get a wood screw swivel set, i will have to disagree. what you should get is a swivel set for the mossberg model 500 since it already comes with a short threaded stud that was designed for the barrel clamp

OK Ryback, I think I know what you're after.

If you can find a barrel clamp with the stud like you see in the photo below, (a factory part with the 870P 18") you can attach a Harris bi-pod to the sling swivel stud.

Get us some photos when you get it done. I bet others here would find it cool as well. ... but we need pictures. :)

The problem with this solution is that there is no platform for the bipod to rest on.

Ryback - Though I don't get why you want to do this, and I think it's kinda useless, here's your solution.

Buy this (take the space out between the http):
ht tp://cgi.ebay.com/Shotgun-Tri-Rail-Barrel-Mount-Remington-870-1100-NEW_W0QQitemZ260304849510QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260304849510&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

And mount this bi-pod to it...
ht tp://cgi.ebay.com/UTG-SWIVEL-STUD-PICATINNY-MOUNT-BIPOD-SHORT-ADJUSTABLE_W0QQitemZ380092567385QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item380092567385&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Don't worry about all this stuff hanging off your barrel and affecting accuracy, that's the least of your problems....these are also cheap parts that will probably disintegrate after a few full power slugs.

PS) Have you ever tried shooting slugs from a bench rest? It isn't fun.

These same units are available from Marstar.

Won't help you with the look coool facotr, but using shooting sticks is probably a more practical solution for hunting.

I don't see any issue with 200 yards using modern sabot slugs.

While I think shooting slug from anything more that 100 yards is wishful thinking. Good on ya for trying, just get a foreend with a Picatinny Rail then just use any AR type of bipod.
