I was just contemplating how many of you utilize a bicycle to access hunting areas and the pro’s/cons to doing so?

I do have an ATV, but it is basically only used for recovery. I find it much more peaceful to walk in and enjoy the experience.

In BC it is becoming more of an issue with the E bikes. Classed as motor vehicles and banned for hunting.
And yes in my younger years I used my bicycle.

What? No? E-bikes are not banned for hunting in BC, they just are considered motor vehicles and have to abide by motor vehicle restrictions where present. They're treated the same as an ATV basically.

I've been strongly considering an E-bike, major factor in why I haven't yet is how hilly the local terrain is, been going back and forth between wanting an E-bike or an older dirt bike like a 1980s vintage 125cc...

A regular bicycle would only be useful to me if I was with someone else - its too steep in the areas I hunt locally to be peddling up to the spots I like. The only time I could see using a regular bike is if someone drove me to the top, left me with my bike and then headed back down, with me following behind a while later... But I do most of my hunting solo...

I have been thinking of doing this in the early archery hunt where I hunt up by GP. I think it will be nice and quiet, but much faster than walking like we normally do!

Make sure you’re in condition and use to the bike. Used one for moose and by time I was back in camp I could not sit on the thing. Limit your distance to start with as well. Good luck.

In NW Alberta? Sure, depending on how you like to hunt, I could see some great applications there: Old roads and cutlines, getting through the boring stuff close to the truck before hitting prime hunting country. Faster than walking, quieter than your quad.

In case it wasn't obvious, the faster you're moving, the less game you're going to spot. And, carrying your rifle and other gear while on a bicycle can take some time to figure out. If you're not already a fairly experienced cyclist, there's probably going to be a somewhat painful learning curve.
