Big Badger Breaks Out: Three Calibers, One Strange Rifle

I hope they offer more calibers in the future. Awfully much for a .410 and .30-30 isn't worth it in current year either. .350Leg is cool but they could've gone with .357Mag so you could shoot .38s out of it, who knows maybe in the future

357, 44mag, 454 casull, 300Blackout, lots of maybe better options for them to have released in a new model. I love my little badgers, not perfect but fun toys to improve. I wonder how that thin metal hand grip feels when you shoot a full size cal?

Strange indeed. I've never understood the appeal of single shots... It is an interesting rifle and I'm intrigued but don't see the practicality of having to reload every shot 🤷‍♂️ Seems like more of a novelty thing.

If the goal is rate of fire, single shots are maybe third to last, just ahead of muzzle loaders, flint locks and caps..... :)

It's a simple device that invokes simpler times for some people... more of a throw back then a novelty in my opinion.

I can see the "maker" community going nuts with this design building 3d grip inserts and shell holders etc for the wire stocks.

Looking forward to more links to other people talking about the product from North Sylva, and maybe some more importer/distributor information if they have any.

These have been in Canada for a little while now, since the start of 2025 i believe but inventory seemed kinda scarce. Some shops I've seen them in stock in the past were firearms outlet, sfrc and Dante to name a few.
I picked up the 410 version, never got to fire it yet but overall seems like a solid little shotgun and locks up tight and trigger doesn't seem terrible. Only thing i found kinda off was the grip angle for me. Almost would of preferred a straight grip design like the little badgers are but that'd just be my personal preference. As is though it seems perfectly useable.
I'm also looking forward to different caliber options than they're offering right now, one in. 357 magnum or 44 magnum would be great.

I like that they offer it in 30-30. There's a few options for affordable 44 and 357 single shots these days, but i don't think Rossi or CVA makes a 30-30 and Henry's have gotten pretty expensive.

Plus you don't need to use flat or round nose bullets in a single shot. Handload a bullet with a decent BC and the 30-30 still has 1800+fps and 1100+ft/lb at 300yds. That's on par with what you get at 200yds with a flat nose bullet.

As far as I know, there were limited amounts as you say No name, buy none in 30-30 which is a bit odd for what was already a later then usual release.

It would be nice if North Sylva could fill in the blanks, but up until this recent post, or rather link they either don't know what's going on, or won't say for some reason.

Covid definitely messed up some supply chains and it's possible there are other things happening internally with Chiappa..... these are things that only industry insiders and people close to the company would fully grasp.

No biggie, it's not like there are no other distractions in the world today ...... plus it's fun to "imagine what could be, unburdened by what has been!"

:)

A "Middle" badger between the Little and the Big for lower power cartridges would be cool.

As far as .38/.357 go, I have a .357Max barrel for an H&R. .357Max, .357Mag, .38Sp. I suppose it could be used to harvest medium big game. With .38 wadcutters it isn't much louder than a .22, but makes a lot larger hole.
A minimal rifle like this in .30-30 might not be the most pleasant to shoot...

I did spot the 30-30 model once in stock and that was at Dante other than that it's always been just the .410 and the 350 legend that I've seen available.

Right on, it was quite a limited release that's for sure.

There is really not much info or reviews online so it feels to me like no country has received any real volume yet.

Here's a more recent French review do doubt there will be many more when they are sold into the market..... he didn't like the grip but also agrees that the aftermarket will fill that void. He was struggling with the safety being stiff but that might have been due to way he was using the action. he was cocking the gun before closing because he found that easier then cocking the hammer under the scope with no spur on the hammer..... later in the video he is cocking under the scope and seems to be not using the safety which makes more sense.

That's one of the reasons I like the idea of the 30-30. To me it feels like a good middle ground: Not as much recoil as 308, but significantly better range then the 357 or 44, especially if you handload pointy bullets.

Plus rimmed cartridges just make sense in a break action IMO.

It's a 5.5 lb gun with no optic.... put a mid weight scope and rings on it and your at around 6.5 pounds which is about the same weight as a loaded Winchester 94 with iron sights.
