Big Bore (.375 and up) Bolt Action Rifle ####

Do it Kevan!

Glad you like it, I put the irons on, as it was drilled and tapped for them. I like me some wood stocks but that hogue stock is pretty bombproof. Was thinking of getting a Bell & Carlson from Prophet river but the time to get one in with a shorter LOP wasn't worth it.

You need another one Kevan! I wonder what they go for these days?

Yes TM, I need another but I'd really like to build a 404 on the Ruger case using that Howa action.

I've had the 416 and 458, they are both great but my favourites and the ones I've found the most useful are the 375's and 9.3's The Ruger has its appeal but for me will never replace the H&H, they feed super smooth and despite the naysayers they are very accurate. For the big game hunter who travels light this number will do it all.

I've posted this a few times before, my old and well travelled Browning 375 H&H.
Its hunted everything from Coyotes and Antelope to Bison and most everything in between excepting Grizzly.
And still groups in or under the magic inch providing I do my part..

OK, ignore NL-H, I don't have that many big bores..............So I'll start with this one but it's not a bolt.........definitely over 375 H&H in both bore and energy...........My Merkel 470 NE double........

This is my custom stocked Sako A IV Safari in 375 H&H

This is my Weatherby Mark V Euro in 378 Wby

This is my Sako L61R in 375 Wby

This is my working 375 H&H, 700 Rem SS in a CDL stock...........

This is a 458 WM that is being chambered out to a 458 on the Ruger 416 case with a 40 deg shoulder...........Improved if you like......

This one although not over .375 is still a real hellfire killing big bore........9.3X300 WM............270 gn bullets at over 3000 fps

This is my Steyr 50 BMG...........

And I apologize but I have no photos of my 416 Rigby on a 602 Brno, just a basic 602 deluxe though, nothing fancy............Nor my 375 Ruger African but again nothing fancy just a factory Ruger ....

Very nice rifles here!

Here are a couple lightweight 375&H's that I have. A chopped off Rem XCR in a McMillan and a Sako Fiberclass.

Douglas.... What can I say, I'm simply overwhelmed !
I would settle for that Merkel or the price in my pocket !
Thanks for the post Douglas, seeing your toys is never tiring..

I only have one true big-bore, my CZ 550 Safari Classic 458wm

Hope you don't mind so many pics, it's deeply rooted into the "pride and joy" section of my safe and I take every opportunity to show in off ;)

I also have a 45-70 Gov't as well and as may meet the standard of big bore in size, I dont think in fits into the power category. I love it to death but its no 458.

^If I had one like that I wouldn't hesitate to show it off either! Looks great.

I realize now I own a "big bore"; my 500 S&W handi-rifle. But posting it would be sort of like showing off my CRV in the hunting trucks thread.

This is quickly becoming my favourite #### thread.

Custom Brno 602, .375 Ultra, Talley ghost ring, brass front post on a barrel band base, Burris Scout scope on custom quarter rib, 20" Smith fluted .375 barrel, McMillan stock, 13.5" LOP note sling swivel on radius of the forend tip protects hand in recoil while allowing slung up shooting positions, nylon finger deflector behind trigger guard . . .

Custom Brno 602, .375 Ultra, Talley ghost ring, brass front post on a barrel band base, Burris Scout scope on custom quarter rib, 20" Smith fluted .375 barrel, McMillan stock, 13.5" LOP note sling swivel on radius of the forend tip protects hand in recoil while allowing slung up shooting positions, nylon finger deflector behind trigger guard . . .

Like the scout scope setup idea on the big bore...

Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger in a McMillan stock and a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36.

That's one goofy looking moose. The ruger looks great in that stock though. Mines just a stock ruger alaskan that's all scuffed and such. I won't post a pic here, as a previous post mentioned, it's like putting your CRV in a hunting trucks thread.
Some really beautiful rifles here....

Hey BO56,....... I'd sure like to buy that off you and make myself another 450 Ackley..........458 in that action is such a waste of a true magnum action, after all the 458 was designed by Win to give 470 NE ballistics (good luck) in a standard length relatively inexpensive action. To put it in a beautiful full sized magnum square bridge action like the CZ is heresy.........That rifle just cries "make into a Lott or Ackley or 450 Rigby"
By the way that is a very nice piece of lumber on that CZ !!!!!!!!

If I ever decide to sell, you'll be the first to know. I couldn't agree more about the need to stretch things out chamber wise. As a matter of fact I have a 458 Lott reamer, bag of brass and dies all waiting to be used. I just need to get around to taking it into someone to do the cutting as I'm too afraid I would mess it up somehow.
I had thought about 450 Rigby, being such a classy cartridge, but the increase in performance vs the exponentially higher cost of brass brought me back to the Lott. That, and the fact that the Lott reminds me of a modern 45-110 but in a repeating rifle and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I happened into this rifle on a trade and the wood still blows me away. I'm a big fan of the big CZ's!
