Big Bore Lever Gun

I went ahead & bought a new Marlin guide gun 1895 GS 45-70 from Cabelas Canada. I know some people had trouble with the new Remington Marlins in the beginning.

No problem at all with my gun, nice workmanship, no feeding issues either with Leverevolution or Winchester factory ammo (the only 2 I have shot). Very accurate, less than 1 inch with open sights at 50 yards. Love the gun, it is a keeper. Maybe I was just plain lucky

My Remlin GBL is the same. Love it. Few bad ones, and internet rumors go like wildfires.

Sometimes inernet rumors do spread like wildfire.

However, I can personally attest to several non-functional Marlington GBL's arriving at our local retailer that had to be sent back. One rifle out of a batch of six made it to the store shelves, and only after the manager worked the action for over an hour in order for it to cycle at all. It was still so rough and had such obviously bad machining that it's still sitting on the shelf about a year later, unsold. :(

Why do they port those things? The noise is unreal. I remember not being able to hear for 45 minutes after shooting a moose in tight bush with a Guide Gun in .45-70. The best thing they ever did was to get rid of the porting. That Winchester is one fine looking rifle, but the price is up in the black rifle price range. Too much for a Winchester.

I have a pre-remington XLR1895 with DRC XS sights and love it! It likes 300, 350, 405 and 500 gr bullets. A friend of mine has a 45-70 and after I shot it, I had to have one!
