I would like to buy a larger cal muzzleloader for hunting and plinking, now i have had many PH .58 and they are great but i am looking for something different. say like a Allen Box lock rifle or a Hawken .54 looking for something different.Any input from owners of the box lock rifles,and others. would much be appreciated.

I have R J Renner sporting rifle which uses an Allen Box lock action in 62cal and love it.Renner customized the action a bit by reshaping the hammer and tuning it up with a nice trigger the result is a nice light sporting rifle that balances easily in hand.My rifle also has Forsyth rifling allowing the use of heavy charges with stripping the ball.I don t think he makes this rifle anymore which is a shame.The Allan action is a strong one in fact one guy built a 4 bore on one.There is a rifle at track of the wolf with an Allen action though it has a $2 grand price tag.

My big bore is a original 8 bore rifle from Africa, beside a 45 cal Thompson and they weight about the same

Yup that's the one, the stock is nice and beefy on it, a sturdy gun.
I wacked that piece of hardwood with a .715 patched ball with 80 grains of 2F, it split in half.

Still trying to find myself a nice BP Double rifle "kit" Too bad I cant find any that's a "big bore" Looking for at least a .54 or 58
Maybe ill just have to get a single kit. (or 8 bore!
Too bad. There was a new in box Pedersoli Kodiak 58 caliber double rifle that just sold new in box for $850.00.

Not a very good picture but it shoots a winged bullet and is a 2 groove rifle the bullet is 750 grains and seems to be close to the sights with 3 drams of 2F powder
The second gun is a double 12 bore Westley Richard and again a bullet gun and spent timein India as the one barrel is mark gun was made in 1851
