Hi there!

I have somme difficulties to get on the Hornady 30 cal 168gr Match bullets sometimes, and locally I can have the SIerra 168gr BTHP, which is very very similar, event the bal. coeff is almost the same.

Do you think I can barely use the same reciepe for reloading them, expecting almost the same results? The barrel hamonics should'nt be way off with these similar bullets....

Thanks,

Dark

Use the same data, but check the distance from rifling. You might have to change the OAL.

Or, see if you can find the Sierra 175. Same bullet with a longer boattail. better ballistics and less wind drift.

I currently use both, and load the same for both in my Savage 10TR. Haven't noticed a difference up to 400 yrds so far

WOW! Glad to hear that, I'm actually using them on a 10TR!! Haha what a coincidence :)

What is your reciepe? I'm pushing them with 40.6gr of IMR 4895, Winchester primer on a Lapua neck turned case. I was achieving 2655 fps, SD of 10.4 .

I believe the greatest difference in these is PRICE. I load both with same load and if you mixed the rounds up and fired a group, you more than likely would not be able to discern which was which.

I used to use them interchangeably in both a Sako TRG 21 and a Sako TRG 22. No change in group size or point of impact. I may just have been lucky but a lot has to be said about the TRG as well, they shoot everything very well.

From memory, it likes 46gr Varget. I can't recall what recipe I use with IMR 4895, but I'll look up my recipe in my noted.

Oh, WLR primer, range pick up brass.

This!

I am in the same ballpark for loads with a Remington 700 5r with 20 inch barrel. When I am doing things right, depending on temperature, the rifle is well under 1/2 MOA at 14-18 degrees Celcius, approaching 1/3MOA or slightly better, at 6 to 8 Celcius with 168gr Hornady BTHP. I found absolutely NO accuracy difference/improvement with Sierra 168 gr HPBT bullets other than a reduction of about $20 per hundred from my wallet.

The 168's sit in a strange position ballistics-wise.

I've abandoned use of 168's in 30 Cal and moved mostly to 175's in the 308. Very similar MV's to the 168's, but better flight characteristics past 600 metres.

Another option is 155's at higher MV's, and with better flight characteristics than the 168's, even to 1000 yds if you can get the MV close to 3000 - possible in a long-barreled 308 and easy in a 300 Win Mag.
