Big Dilemma ** Trolling Thread **

.280.. you admittedly never paid much for the 270 barrel so if only becomes a tomato stake it's no big deal. Supposedly the 280 is a better calibre, although at this time I can not remember all the technical reasons. I do recall reading Jim Carmichaels book, "Book of the Rifle", in which he touted the Remington .280 as being a better choice than the Win. 270.

I think the biggest difference between the two is the 280 has a faster twist barrel allowing the use of heavier higher BC bullets.

Here's an idea with a ;) slightly different 'twist' for consideration Paul. Go for the 270 choice, then, help me work on Douglas for development of a 270 wildcat. The '270 Trump". We can do it :) .

I've always had a hate on for the .270. Recently I liquidated the gun collection to buy a house, and ended up buying a .270 as the price was right and I needed a decent hunting rifle. With the first loads I put together the gun was showing a consistent 3/4'' at 100m with 130gr ttsx's. Pretty hard to argue with that. That being said..............

The gun will either a 6.5x55 or 280AI by next hunting season. Can't explain it but I just don't like the chambering. If I'm shooting bullets under 140gr I want a 6.5 and if I want more 7mm or bigger is the only logical choice.

From the looks of the pictures I would use the 280 barrel as it looks to be a bdl barrel the 270 looks like a sh**y sps barrel. Just my thoughts.

With .270 or .280, you are really splitting hairs! Both are excellent cartridges.
I would go with the .280, just for the heck of it. You can always pick up a .270 later, lots of them around.

SC..............if you decide to go 270..............Kiss the bottom metal goodbye............I will not be a party to the building of another 270............PERIOD !!!!!!! If however you decide to go 280, well you can count on me, but you best not lie to me................
