A pic of my just-arrived RC K98. Not the prettiest one ever seen, I know, even accounting for it being in the usual fresh-from-the-steppes condition.

It is un-peened, however, not even an "X", but what's more important, to me at least, is where it originally came off the line. In the first picture you'll see the RC posing with a little friend. This P08 is all-matching, brought back by my Grandfather at the end of the war (the front sight has come off and needs re-attaching). He died when I was quite young, so I didn't get a chance to get the story of where and how it came into his possession.

You'll see from this second image why I chose this particular rifle. Both the K98 and the P08 are 1940 "42" production. Given the number of manufacturers, etc., this seemed as good a thing as any to use as the basis of selection.

I've got lots of questions to ask about cleaning up and tuning up this rifle, but I'll put them in another post and for now leave you with a question. If the P08 is the sidearm to the K98, what is the appropriate longarm to go with the revolver below, a WWII-vintage S&W Victory Model in .38 S&W? This one carries no ordnance nor any other markings besides the Smith factory marks, but has the lanyard swivel.
