Big game..big talk

The same argument could be made that the 12 gauge is better at long range than the 375 Ruger........:D

Except that the .375 Ruger/.375 H&H trajectory is more akin to a 30-06 with heavy bullets...

But hey, you could compare the .375 H&H/.375 Ruger ballistics to 12 guage...Go do it and report back here.

Maybe this might help the non believers. Here's a link to help you with your homework. Browse through it thoroughly and report back to Gate.

Lots of ballistics and gun info + testimonials. Try not to fall over when you read about the Alaskan brown bear taken handily with uber slugs.

Must be a conspiracy:confused:

Hope you enjoy.

Lots of bear have died via shotgun slug...

No slug match .375 H&H /30--06/.375 Ruger trajectory, though..

No 45/70, either...

My mistake. I misunderstood your earlier post. After re reading it I couldn't agree more with you. My slug gun is an efficient killer out to 200 yds but after that the trajectory is herendous. Although it holds it own against the gov't.

I suppose we've ran out of dumb stuff to debate, like 270 vs 30/06, so we got to dumb it up some more.

SC,
Everyone knows Spock can take Kirk in any kind of fight...what a stupid comparison. I would expect that after 8000+ posts you wouldn't post such a ridiculous thing and show your fellow gunnutz's such disrepect by expecting us to debate a fight with such an obvious conclusion.

I'm also very ineterested in knowing how many of you guys use slug guns in areas that allow rifles.

If slug guns are so good, there must be lots of people using them hunting in all areas. Oddly enough, I have met thousands of hunters in the bush and have seen perhaps, 1-3% of them with a slug gun.

Agreed. My 30-06 is my go to gun everytime as long as the law allows it. After reading all of the opposition regarding the ability of modern wonder/uber slugs I have decided to forget the debate regarding its place in the field. It is a topic that does not require a lot of attention.
I can honestly say that I wish I had a long gun chambered for every calibre/ga. That is the beauty of being a gunnut. I refuse to discredit any firearm especially one I am not familiar with. I have never fired a 45-70 and I am glad I can come here and read about them. All I have is numbers and I realize numbers don't equate to sh.t in the field.

Of course the logical response would be that if the 45-70 was so good, there must be lot's of people using them in all areas.Oddly enough, I have met hundreds of hunters in the field and I have never met one carrying a 45-70.

So have you realized yet that a shoulder fired gun with a rifled barrel is considered a rifle, even if it shoots shotgun slugs?

I'm glad I don't have to hunt in places where I would meet thousands of hunters. That would suck.

i have to agree with .303, you should never have bad-mouthed the 45/70 or even mentioned it in the same sentence as the 12 Ga.....I don't believe you will ever be forgiven, the 45/70 is the best cartridge for hunting when using smokeless powder bar none. Just as the 50/90 Sharps is when using BP.
i just talked, on the weekend, to an old hunter in central Sask. who has shot many deer with big racks over the years, he uses a .303 with iron sights, and can't remember shooting any of them over 100 yds.

the best bar none? haha have another puff

i have to jump on sheep's side here...the 12 gauge and the 45/70 are pretty darn close when comparing the newest slugs to the 45/70..with handloads the 45/70 gets the nod..neither are 500 yard guns like .303 was saying (not sure what planet he's on?)..what is the point of this argument? they are both short range weapons for game...end of story..this site beats things to a pulp. People like starting sh*t for no reason on here....

I just ordered a 12 g barrel for my C.Sharps!

I am then installing the C.sharps barrel on my 870..

So Am I good to go now...

The gunsmith thinks I am nutzzz but after reading this post I am confused

My problem isn't the definition of rifle, what I don't get is the purpose of the uber slugs and uber slug guns?

If they are to extend the range of hunters in shotun only zones, then obviously, the more the slug resembles a centrefire rifle, the sooner the laws are adjusted to specify smooth bore, thus the uber slug and uber slug gun loses it's temporary niche and becomes useless once again.
