Who's done it? what type of gear are you using? how has it worked for you? Stories? Pics?

I've gone up a few rivers in my 16' canoe. I find it alittle to large/heavy for just myself, but its all I have for a canoe. I haven't taken any game, but its amazing how close you can get to geese and other game without being heard. I'd really like to get my hands on a small alluminum canoe, and maybe a small electric motor. I think it'd be great for northern ontario hunting, a perfect thing to get away from the noise made by "hunters" on atvs and trucks.

We got our moose by canoe last year. Shooting a rifle from a canoe requires a little practice. If moose is on the menu, 16' is not too large as you'll probably want at least to ferry it out two quarters at a time.

Canoes are great for waterfowling. I've got mine set up with netting stitched together to make it a floating blind. It can get a little cramped sitting in the bottom for a couple of hours, but the flexibility pays off.

Done it forever, for moose and bears mostly. Quite peaceful, often lets you get close to the game. We prefer powered vessels as we usually have a base camp and like to go up and downstream. River hunting often saves packing as well, as most of the game is shot right on the shoreline. Don't forget your fishing rod either!

In my experience, it's easiest done with two people, both low in the canoe to make you a little harder to spot. The guy in the back paddles, while the one in the front is ready to shoot. It works well for both waterfowl and big game, especially moose. And as was said earlier, paddling a quartered moose out is far better than having to carry it out.

I take my hunters out for moose in a canoe while guiding. lets you creep into marshy bays uber quiet. moose don't seem to fear anything from the water, makes approaching them easy.

Only 5 replys? Nobody get out of the truck, or off the ATV anymore?:p I know there's gotta be some old farts around here that hunt the right way, or atleast use to:eek: Somebodys gotta chit chat and tell young lads like myself how it should properly be done. :nest:
