Hi there.

I have an M305, which I adore,
when I bought it, it came with a USGI synth on it, which looked fantastic , and the norinco Wood stock in the box of extras.

When I first used the rifle on a thanksgiving crown land venture, it was mechanically very enjoyable, but I absolutely hated the stock.

I'm sure you'll all understand what I mean when I say the forestock has NO room for my hand.

I have to hold it in such a graceful way so as not to be grabbing the op rod.

I can of course hold it with the mag, but I don't want to have tor rely on that, as I do like using the 10 and 5 rounders as well..

when I returned home, I attatched the norinco wood stock, and found that as expected, in addition to it looking great, it feels SOOO much better.
I can actually grab a good chunk of stock with my whole hand, and the handle is nice and wide and comfy.

Now then

I know norinco stocks are used by some people with no complaints, and by some with horror stories.

Im sure mine will be fine, but just so I know, what's a cheap wood stock (or I suppose synth) that I can look out for that will be nice and fat and hefty for my grip?

keep in mind I said cheap, so no Sages for the time being ;)

thanks so much

ww w.boydboys.com. Choice of walnut, brown or black laminate, a bit bigger than USGI. Reasonably priced for the quality, and they will accept Canadian orders. Or just synthetic bed the original stock to reduce the risk of compression of the wood resulting in sloppy bedding. A JB Weld kit is less than $10. Bedding procedures for M-14 rifles are well established. Or just use the original stock as is, and bed it if necessary, later on. You do not have to "accessorize" one of these rifles in order for it to be a perfectly usable recreational shooter.

Grab the boyd's national match stock instead of the standard one, beefier forend for your big hands to grab! I have one of these stocks on a Garand currently, very nice units for the money, much better then the norc chu wood.

+1 on the Boyds, I've got a laminate one on mine. My hands aren't big and I still find the GI stock a little thin--I like the beefier feel of the Boyd's. They look pretty good, too!

Boyd's NM laminate is as fat as they get I believe. If that's not big enough for your mits you could always screw a 2x4 on :D .
