BIG milsurp! (Tiger Tank Restoration)

I got a private tour of this place. 211 armoured vehicles, most of them look like the crew stepped away for a smoke, completely outfitted with maps, small arms, dummy ammo, etc. They were doing a ground up restoration of a Panther, he was still able to get parts from Krupp!!!!

One full day was only enough to look at 15% of the collection, he also had T-34,T-55,T-64,T-72,T-10,ZSU-23, 2 scud missile launchers. He also had the half-track from the Dirty dozen! The list goes on and on. It was a very good day!!!

This place was featured in the Tank Week show on History Channel just last week. The owner has a year round full time restoration team & fully equipped workshop to painstakingly refurbish/reproduce every part he needs to restore a tank to its original mint condition. Real amazing story.

And the only reason he can keep his hobby going is because he is a multi millionaire.

a littel of subject, but... how did every loser in the WWII movies managed to open the trap to the turret and trhow a grenade inside?

Bovington Tank Museum
http://www.tankmuseum.org/home.html

A relative of mine (my Dad's uncle, I think he was) was the curator of this place for a while. In 1980, my family went to UK, and visited Bovington. The relative had retired as curator by then, but was able to give us a private tour even still.
Fantastic collection of stuff! I would like to go again, if I could.

IIRC they had to start that monster every couple of hours.... just to keep it running.

If an A1 Abhrams needs 1gal / 1mile... imagine how much did this baby burn.... My kid was laughing when I told him that at one time this tank made half the work tremble from just thinking about it.....

I've got a bubba'd Panzer VI. Turret was ground down, scope installed with a piece of angle iron, headspace issues on the mixed-bolt 88mm, has a deer carved into the glacis plate, and a rubber butt pad poorly installed in the commander's seat. Does anybody have any original parts they're not using?

I would love to see a Panther, tiger, Tiger2, T34 and Is2!

All except the Is2 are at the Patton armor museum at fort Knox, plus many others, including a king tiger cut away to show interior detail. Go, its free and you won't regret it.
