I have an extra mosin ngant 91/30, would like to put an archangel stock on it with a timney trigger and a tanker style muzzle brake. My question is I see some bolt on tanker style brakes on ebay. If I use Loctite on the set screws will it hold or should I take it to a gunsmith and get the barrel threaded and use a threaded muzzle brake.

Whats a good scope to go with on the mosin nagant?

One more thing should I cut the barrel down and by how much?

A threaded barrel prob be better for a muzzle brake. Youtube about cutting yur barrel.
 
And it won't be worth the $600+ that people try to sell them for on the EE after they realize a 5 moa battle rifle in a plastic stock with a shoddy scope mount and $50 scope is still just a 5 moa battle rifle dressed up like something it is not. Spend that mony on an entry level precision rifle if you want a shooter. If you want to dress it up, the smartest way is with bolt ons and keep your original parts. When you get bored of it, return the rifle to its former glory and sell the aftermarket pieces individually to recoup some of your cost.
 
Go with the new Witt brake that Hical sells, it's currently the best Mosin brake on the market. (pricey tho)
The AA is a major step up ergonomics wise for that rifle. I do not recommend cutting it down though. Sell it and find a M38 instead if you must have a shorter barrel.[SUB][/SUB]

Mosins tend to be about 1-3 MOA on average (Finnish ones I can see doing better even). It is the quality of surplus ammo that really keeps them from preforming.

That's about right with a new barrel, 1-3 MOA. Snipers will do 1 MOA as guaranteed by the factory.

With a harmonically tuned rifle (usually via handloading) or via some of the accurizing methods available a sub-MOA Mosin-Nagant is achievable. Please note, a plastic stock and a shortened barrel does not harmonically tune the rifle.

OP try and keep the rifle unmodified. Eventually you'll want to sell your monstrosity and you'll make more money selling the rifle in its original form and then parting out the aftermarket components.

I have a M38 but I can't find a muzzle brake for a M38 not sure why.

Well Hical says they only fit 91/30s but I'm not sure why. Maybe the barrel extends past the front sight more on a 91/30 than a M38? Giving the brake more metal to grasp onto? Hical could answer that.
 
I have a 1 MOA Mosin if hand loads are used and someone with a steady hand is pulling the trigger. I'm new to shooting but here's what I shot two weeks ago with surplus ammo.

My friend who is an experienced shooter did much better than I did with it using surplus ammo. I didn't get pics of his targets as they were on a different day and range but it's possible.

I was really quite happy with how this one turned out! Not bad for a $200 gun, a $40 AIM LER scope mounted with a $25 mount shooting $0.23 rounds!

I say to the OP go ahead and Bubba one up!! Buy a second to keep original because they are just as fun to shoot as the bubba'd versions and the price is certainly right!!
 
I have a 308 muzzle break ordered for the shortened Mosin that I got off eBay. For half the cost of my local gunsmith to install it I was able to order the proper die and a die starter guide off eBay. I haven't get them yet to complete the job but I think it will work out fine. These Mosins do have a serious kick to them.
