Big Rack

Still a free-range animal in a fair-chase situation.....just because he has some money doesn't mean he's any less deserving.

well when the tag costs $170,000 USD and he paid for HOW many guides to go looking for this animal for weeks ahead of time, to me he bought that rack.

Personally I don't believe it's real hunting when you have someone SHOW you where the damn animal is and all you do is pull the trigger then hand the animal over to someone else to clean if afterwords.

If that guy had been going for years by himself hunting the "perfect" animal and then finally bagged it then yeah Id be impressed.

Or are you just jealous that he has money?? Regardless, the animal was taken free-range and fair chase and to me that is an accomplishment and as a fellow hunter I'm not about to denegrate his accomplishment.

Im not jealous of his money and HE did not chase it, his guides did and then showed him where the animal was! How is that sporting?

"he hired Mossback and outfitter Doyle Moss' stable of guides to keep tabs on the bull"

Why didn't the guy just put a radio collar on the animal, would have been cheaper....

Yeah. Honkin' big Elk.

Meh. Overwhelming feeling of "Whatever..."

Too much money tied up in it to think of it as an accomplishment on the part of the hunter. Just cash exchanged for bragging rights.

Still a record. Sure to be out on the publicity tour, and a moneymaker for the outfitter.

Cheers
Trev

LOL....pretty well guarantee the hunter won't be out on the publicity tour but I'm sure Doyle will be using it to his advantage.....and so he should.

Why do you care and why do you feel the need to belittle his accomplishment on a public messageboard.....not being a ####, just curious. I never understand that.

Unless he rode in on a helicopter, got dropped in the bush, then piggybacked one of his guides to the bull, he chased it. So he spent some big cash for help, big deal.

How many of you eastern boys hunt in a party for one moose tag? How is that different, when 12 of you are looking for one moose?

The elk is definitly impressive, but the way it was taken is not. Paying six figures for a tag, and hiring umpteen guides to track, find, and keep tabs on the elk until he could show up in his leer jet and take the shot. It isn't hunting, he was in it for the rack not the hunt.

Hunting for me is a week in the bush with my closest friends, tracking, and pushing if need be. Taking home an animal is a bonus, its everything else that goes on that makes every year memorable.

For those who are saying "How is this any different that 12 guys sharing a moose tag"...Do 11 of the 12 watch that bull 24/7 for a week, then hunter #12 shows up and takes the shot?

I don't see a can opener in the pic, but he likely needed one for that. I've often found that pale antlers are indicative of animals that live in pens with no amount of bush to rub their headgear on and keep the antlers from bleaching out in the sun.

Not 100% sure, but it looks like a farmed elk to me.

It's not....read the story. It's 100% wild.

Yeah sure he walked but he had a guide who fed him the GPS coordinates of where the elk was.

If you have to have someone TELL you where the animal is then that is NOT hunting. That is NOT what hunting is about, frankly people who hunt for nothing but trophies shouldn't even be allowed to hunt! There is a reason Canada has a law against that!

That guy shouldn't even be allowed to call himself a hunter. Sure the animal was "wild" and "anyone" could hunt it, but having people show you exactly where the animal was is the most laziest form of hunting I've ever seen.

It was on the news today and talked about how the guides went out days ahead of time looking for the Elk. Once they found it they called him up, he drove out there, the guides led him right to where the bull was (no tracking it at all) and the guy shot it.

If ANYONE can define this as "sporting" then please do so!

hunt
/hʌnt/ [huhnt]
–verb (used with object)
1. to chase or search for (game or other wild animals) for the purpose of catching or killing.

HE didn't CHASE it and HE didn't SEARCH for it but he sure KILLED it....

Still curious why you care so much........

Still curious why you care so much........

why do you care? My family has hunted ever since they first stepped onto North America and they hunted for one reason, to put food on the table.

Now you might think he's God's gift to hunters probably because you use the same cheap tactics of hiring people to find the biggest animals out there thinking only of the meat second, but some people have a more personal honour to the sport of hunting.

Personally I was taught by my grandfather that you always eat what you shoot and never worry about antler size.

If that guy would have tried hiring people around here to find him the biggest moose... well let's just say the people around here have more honour than that.

Besides this is my OPINION of the guy and I'm allowed to state my opinion just as you are allowed to state yours.

Remember opinions are like @$$holes, everyone has one, so don't worry about it.

Wow, I wasn't ready for that attack on my personal ethics but whatever.

I care because I hate seeing other hunters slamming hunters in a public forum. It's just not good for hunting. I don't think he's God's gift to anyone...just a hunter that shot an elk. He likely is a horn hunter but so what. I'm certain the meat was utilized and he followed all the laws of the land. My only opinion is that hunters shouldn't slam other hunters in a public forum just because they may hunt for different reasons than them or they have more money. Where I come from, we have more honour than that!

I hunt for horns but also eat everything I kill......does that make me less of a hunter than you?

No it doesn't, but having an animal gift wrapped to you just so you could get your name into the record books would make you less of a hunter!

Seriously please explain to me what the difference is between having you take to the EXACT coordinates of this Elk than a farmed elk? Sure someone could have shot it before he got there but the odds were pretty small with an army tracking the animal night and day. So then what is the difference than between having someone follow the elk 24/7 than putting a radio collar on the thing? He still was led to it.

Personally I think the term "shooting fish in a barrel" applies to that elk....

Again, so what? What does it bother you so? So what, he got his name in the record book...is that the ultimate measure of a hunter's worth? I just don't get why it bothers you. Obviously you could care less about the record book so who cares if his name is it? I know I don't care. It's a guy that shot an elk with cool antlers and I'm glad I got to see the photos. So what if he was lead to the elk by an army of guides. All the record books do is measure the amount of horn/antler on an animals head...they have never claimed to be a measure of a hunter's prowess. Take it for what it is, a big elk. I love horn ####, especially those that grew in a natural environment.

You are likely 10x the hunter this guy is.....again so what. Are you in a competition with him? All your comments just seem to ooze of petty jealousy.
