The things you see after hunting season...

I had to go to a meeting at work today, so I took along a rifle and camera, just in case. 'West of' Whitecourt, I saw 2 deer out on a lease and right away knew that one was a big buck.

Went in and got these pics, best I could get. That buck was chasing the doe all over the lease and through the willows

This buck is just wider then the ears, which means he'd be right around 20-21" outside spread, but he's got great points! There are 3 long points off that left main beam, that you can see in the 3rd pic.
There's one picture of him in the willows and you can see the spread.

This buck survived the hunting season, I know where he lives and he's every bit of 160"+... maybe a gross book deer.

I wish I coulda got better pics...

West of Whitecourt meaning out past the airport, or West as in closer to Fx Creek?? May need to frequent that side of the Hwy a bit more next year, maybe spend a bit more time out past Windfall Ck, if there's more like him around ;). We generally frequent Virginia Hills area or south of the hwy near Carson, took our supplemental whitetail does this year and a couple of small mulie bucks but nothing of any size nor any whitetail bucks unfortunately. LOTS of wolves up that way this year though.

This cold snap just came a week too late, NOW they're starting to move a bit more, finally.

^ That buck was totally helpless, if the season had been open. He was running that doe so hard. At times he was running right at us. I coulda shot him so easily, just too bad I couldn't get better pics.
When I first saw the deer I just saw how tall his rack was, so my immediate reaction was that it was a big mulie. Then I put the binos on him, saw the tail and went... "####! That's a whitetail!"

And he's like a no-brainer... yeah, I will look for him next year.

I keep looking at the pics of this buck and I can't decide if it's a 4x4, 5x4 or what. I was pretty sure when the deer was in the open, that he's got 3 big points on that left side, but the bugger stopped exactly with that tine (if it's there), right in front of a branch.

So I keep looking at it now trying to decide if there's really a tine there or I'm talking myself into it... friggin' whitetails...
