I'm considering buying some factory ammo for my Enfield. I don't usually buy factory ammo for anything, but I just want a box or two for deer.
I have found a big difference in the size of bullets from little over .310 to the big side of .312. I tried Remington corloct in a no4 mk 1 once and the shot ok at .312, but my loads with .3105 keyholed.
Before I rush out to Crappy tire, does anyone know how winchester, ferderal and remington compare for bullet size? I'll probably go 180 gr for the longer bearing surface.

Remington FMJ/BT is I believe .3100" or .3105". It's an odd one as it's the only Remington factory load that would keyhole in the No.1 Mk.3 I used to have. All their other offerings worked well and that thing had a .315" groove diameter.

All the Federal stuff is .311" I believe. Most factory ammo is going to be .311". Hornady makes .312" bullets for reloading so perhaps their factory ammo uses their .312" bullets as well? I'd cross reference the bullets used in their factory ammo to their component bullets for reloading to see if you can find a match (you usually can with Hornady). Hornady factory ammo is going to be more expensive though.
