Bighorn or Ultimatum action?

In that price range the 2 obvious choices are the Bighorn Origin and the ARC Nucleus. I have a Nucleus and it is smoooooth.once I have more time on it, I'll be putting up a companion to my Defiance Deviant Elite.

My deadline is like butter.

Bolt (without mag or ammo) was very smooth.
Same as you, like butter.
But i had bedded the rear tang, unbedded it would bind when fully torqued.

In my personal experience, i had a very hard time feeding 308 without the bullet nose hitting the feedramp with the deadline.
Since the action is popular, it must accept the 6.5 bullet profiles better.
That 3rd lug has the mag sitting way lower, which would cause my 308 feeding problems.

Never failed to feed, but hit that feedramp, which would induce runout.

What trigger are you running on your Nucleus?

I had MDT plastic 10 round,
MDT metal 10 rounds no binder plate
MDT metal 5 round with binder plate
Magpul 10 round plastic
Accurate mag 10 round metal with binder plate

All no go with 308, unless you modified a mag.
I wasn’t fond of having to run modified mags as i was expecting plug and play AICS compatibility.
This may be my own personal experience and other will experience this differently.

That sucks! Maybe a some tweaking of the feed ramp angle would be beneficial.

For sake of conversation, what other custom actions have you handled? From your experience, what is the Deadline better than? What is it comparable to?

I used to think my GAP Defiance action was "butter", then I handled and owned different custom actions. You won't ever hear me saying that that action feels like butter anymore.

Not saying your action isn't "butter", but I am genuinely curious what you have compared it to. I've never handled a Deadline.

What trigger are you running on your Nucleus?

A Trigger Tech Special with the flat trigger, same as I run in all my rifles. I can actually get it to run reliably on a lower pull weight in both my Nucleus and my Defiance than I can in 2 Rem 700s, I'm guessing because of better bolt timing.

Ah. Yeah, the TTs seem to come with the least amount of reported issues on Snipershide. Good to hear you're liking the action.

I've got two other "customs," one built off a deviant and one off a tikka action. I've shot stiller, Christensen, a few 700 customs and the desert techs. To be honest, the tikka is the smoothest of the bunch, but I thought the deadline was really nice for a 3 lug.

I've never handled a big horn, nucleus, BAT, Cadex, Infidel, or any of the others so my sample size is admittedly smaller than some but I'm really happy with my DL.
I've heard great things about the big horn, and the next custom I get will probably be an insight TL3 build, not because I dislike my ultimatum but mostly to try something new.

Of course, YMMV.

I sold my tikka 223 after getting my bighorn tl3 223 build finished. Best way to wear in a bolt action is have some lube or grease on the bolt for a good while and work the action for fun. My tl3 became smoother than my tikka by a good bit. Tikkas are very nice tho if you don’t have the savings for a bighorn action.
