Bighorn Sheep Head Mount

Hey guys, hopefully this is the right forum for a taxidermy thread. I acquired this bighorn sheep head from my mother's husband, who sadly is no longer with us. This bighorn was shot by my stepfather sometime in the early 1970's and he had it mounted by Ken Hawkins Ltd. The piece looks pretty impressive, but I think it would be improved with some professional cleaning and some minor restoration in one of the nostrils.

I'm not a trophy collector in any way but I was hoping someone could give me some feedback as to roughly what a mount like this could be worth, and where a good place to sell it would be. I understand that these mounts can be valuable, but I have absolutely no idea what sets one apart from another.

My plan is to sell it and further expand my surplus military rifle collection. Any usefull info would be appreciated!

Prospective buyers may ask what the horn length is. You can measure it with a 1/4 measuring tape or use a string or something that won't stretch and measure from the base along the outside curl of the horn around to the very end to the center of the tip. Make sure you keep to the outside of the curl which would give you the longest length of the horn.

Also measure the circumference of the basees where they meets the head.

Check online to find out what it costs to get a Dall Sheep head mounted, that will give you a starting point.
 
Thanks for the responses. I've left a message with a prominent taxidermy company in Vernon that has similar mounts for sale on their web site.
 
I'm afraid you will be hard pressed to sell that mount to anyone for any sum that will expand your collection much. It is a very small Dall and if you got even taxidermy costs you would be doing well.
Don't mean to rain on your parade but buyers are usually looking for Boone and Crockett heads.

Yup! Early in the planning stages, I thought that perhaps I could offset the cost of my African hunt by selling a buffalo head, as the licence allowed two. As it turned out I got one, which by Tanzanian standards was on the small side, and although perhaps representative for an old dugga boy, it nowhere near exceptional. Browsing through Ebay, it looked like I'd have done well to get a couple of hundred dollars for it, and for a couple of hundred dollars it can remain the biggest African buffalo in Churchill.

The trouble is that the mount means little to you as you have no memory associated with it. Still, it might make an interesting conversation piece in the rec-room.

Doesn't even look like a good taxidermy job either, maybe age. Next question is if you can legally sell it ?
