Does anyone else watch these videos ??

I’ve cruised some of the bullet making threads over the years.

I’m an electrician and have collected myself some copper connectors over the years.

I scrap all the wire but I’ve been stacking some bars and lugs and what not. Under 10 lbs

I was wondering if anyone in the lower mainland that melts metal and casts bullets could help me cast this copper into a bar. Something I could polish up and keep in the safe to remind me of my Australian YouTube friend bigstackD

I would pay for the service but would like the opportunity to melt metal without having to get into the hobby head first.

Happy new year

That guy had awesome videos.
I believe he is deceased.

He is still alive.
He just released a video on melting 10kg of shielded power line cable four days ago.
MS25 you are correct jusmping in head first might be a little pricey.
My cousin built his own furnace on the cheap though along with the manifold from the gas bottle.
The silicone crucibles and molds look spendy though.

Grant Thompson (King of Random) died in that para glide/chute accident. BigStack casting is just gonna die of diabetes someday. Lots of great videos from both channels.

Always wondered if melting my scrap wire into ingots would decrease the value of the copper, or if the yard would even take it back at all?

Maybe selling the ingots on ebay would be the better move anyways. IMo, scrap is still way undervalued, relative to the price on the roll.

The scrapper I go to said the ingots/bars would have to be appraised every time.

Where as wire they know what it is so they can give you a price for it.

The price of copper bouillon is comical

Would be nice to make my own

I got $5 for bare bright copper like 5 months ago. Last time I only got $3.57
So it has come down

Might be time to start accumulating the bare bright and only scrapping the BX, ACWU and anything smaller then #6

Those starter smelting kits are reasonably cheap. I've been close to pulling the trigger on one, plus buying a couple crucibles and moulds from a company south of the border that seems to make quality items. I think these are two that you don't want to cheap out on, as they can really impact the end result.

Coated wire is such a handy way of storing copper long term, though. It keeps it nice and clean and bright. Still though, I think stacking some 5lb ingots would be a cool idea; plus I have no interest in hand loading 2 truck beds worth of scrap wire ever again, haha!

I think I'm gonna go ahead and try this out. I don't like the look of ingots when they turn out all pock marked and goofy, so we'll see if I can make one look presentable. Might take a couple tries.

Yeah devil forge has some pretty decent units for an alright price

Looking up prices on eBay it looks like you could sell kilo ingots for $40-50

Currently I’m getting $4.72 lb for bare bright so about $10.40 per kilo.

Some bars are hand poured and some are hand poured but ground smooth.

The idea of scrapping all the bare bright I get does bug me. Thinking about what the copper price will be in the future. But I don’t really have anywhere to store a bunch of scrap wire.

Going to collect all my bare bright, scrap all the other wire. And then save up for a devil forge and start pouring bars

Try and sell them.
