Bill Leeper 300 WSM

What about a differnt brand of primers. I have had good luck using CCI magnum primers for everything that gets over 60 grains of powder including a 270. They CCI magnum primer is the mildest of the magnums and I think an article in Handloader stated the Federal 215 was the hottest.
I just agreed to buy a Browning abolt classic hunter in 300 WSM.
Sorry for reviving the thread, just looking for some loads.

I have stopped experimenting withthe X bullet now..I'll get back to it in the spring. I loaded up enough for hunting at 2900fps, that will be fine.

I did try RL22 and RL25. Surprisingly, the RL25 gave me very good velocity, with no pressure signs, although the load was very compressed. Actually, it would be an easy load to use, since I could just fill the case to the top and seat a bullet!

RL22 performed nicely as well.

There goes my "simple life" of only keeping 3-4 powders on hand theory!

Haven't you gotten bored with that old beater and bought a new rifle yet??

Good luck this season, I'm sure it will lose it's virginity soon...

Not onoly do I hope it loses it's virginity, I intend to turn it into a slut! :D

300WSM

The recommended 67 gr of 760 with a 175 Sierra works fine in my F-Class rifle. It's at least MOA. The barrel is a 1-1/4 inch Smith gain twist 12x7.5. Rifle was built for 220 Sierras but not tested out yet. Gunsmith was Jim Leeper! My son Bill isn't the only one who can build good ones, though I have to admit he both manufactures and shoots a lot better than I can.
BTW, even a 22pound 300WSM is no fun to shoot in a full match. :D

You must be doubly proud, Jumper!! :D
BTW, I told my son that once he gets his millwright's ticket he can work on his nachinsist ticket.
I told him I would install a mill and lathe in the gaarge for him.

ALL I GOT WAS HEADSHAKES!!
Seems the kid doesn't relish being tied to a lathe , building rifles for
the Old badger and myself!!

Hi Jumper,

It's great to hear from you. Bill has a great rep around here, now we know where he got the skills from. :)

From now on we don't need to give Bill any more credit, it'll be "Jim's kid did a great job on that rifle, he sure musta been raised right!"

What do you think Bill? :p

What?

Is this Bill Leepers Dad?

Hell, isn't Bill about a thousand years old? His daddy must be 2 thousand! DO you hunt in your PJ's and slippers too?

Sad to say , the 300WSM is still a virgin...I saw abotu 75 sheep, but none legal. (Although one today was a squeaker...) :p

I got to shoot my 300 WSM today, I worked up to 67.5 gr of H4350 and 168 gr TSX's, shot into less than an inch. I only got the rifle yeaterday, Browning Abolt classic.

Rel19 seems to work best in my 300SAUM also. Just yesterday I chronyed a 168 Interbond pushed by 69 grs of Rel19 at an average of 3107 for six rounds out of the 22" Model Seven....I am going to try 180's, just can't decide which ones to try first :?

Gatehouse,
I loaded them to .050 off the lands, the OAL in my Browning was 2.840.
I'm going to try and do some damage to an elk next week.
