Well I finally found some time to make some chips on my billet lower receiver for the AR180B uppers I have. I was able to cut the entire right half yesterday, I'll be flipping it and cutting the left side once I get all the engraving done.

I took lots of pictures but forgot my camera cable in my laptop bag at work with my other laptop, so you guys are stuck with a picture I took with my Blackberry. Bit of a teaser, I guess. ;)

Time is not on my side. I'm trying to get this thing done during our Xmas slowdown this week. Then I'm off to school for two months on Jan. 4th. It's now or March. :(

I polished off the tool marks with a ScotchBrite pad because otherwise it was way to hard to tell what was what.

I'm just using 6061 for this first run. Kind of a prototype and we had the material in the shop. 6061 is more than adequate for the shooting I will do with it. This isn't going to be a full-auto combat rifle.

I was told that if it can't mount an AR15 upper, it isn't an AR15. Also, since I'm building it to work with an already exisitng firearm, it is clearly a variant of that firearm, in this case the AR180B.

Alright, time for pictues!

6"x2"x9" block of 6061 T6 was the starting point, rought $60.

Block was faced and then the outer profile cut.

Then is was milled and some 3D surfacing to get to the final product.

After all holes were drilled, it was time to engrave the fire control markings...
(should have increased the letter spacing, oh well)

...and finally the custom engraved markings on the magazine well that sum up the goal of Project Defiant.
(I have no idea why it seems the tool didn't pick up after cutting some of the lettering. I was in a hurry and didn't run a verify on the computer so I didn't catch it until it was too late.)
