Billy Bishop's 1911 for sale

Any idea what these will sell for? Are we talking thousands, or TENS of thousands? Not that I have the cash or the will, just curious!

Agreed though, hope they stay on our soil!

Wow, I would do almost anything for those...Too bad he requires payment in cash, thats the one thing I dont have lots of! Maybe he would take a lung...

Wm Barker was from Dauphin, MB, near where I grew up. The local air cadet squadron, of which I was a member, is named after him. His younger brother, Orville Barker, presented me with the Barker Trophy in 1989. It was quite something to be able to speak with him following the ceremony; he certainly has gone to great lengths to ensure his brother's legacy and memory was preserved.

I would KILL to own his 1911. Sadly, I don't think the wife will let me take out a 2nd mortgage. I just hope it ends up in good hands. :(

I think the gun is still in Canada isnt it? The certificates say the gun is located in Winnipeg.

Man... what a piece of history that would be to own. Can you imagine if the libs had banned handguns and this was turned in to be destroyed?!?

To the folks who want to see these guns in a Canadian museum, I would rather see the gun in the hands of a private Canadian Collector who truly has a passion for guns and Canadian history. If they went to the Canadian War Museum they would be dewatted - every gun I saw in there was and that would be a shame. These guns need to stay Canadian and working.

I was told that at one time this pistol was in the War Museum, in storage, in a drawer. The WM couldn't get its act together to buy it, and it was taken back. Now its in the US. Personally, I would rather that an appreciative US collector have it, than have it welded up in the WM. There was a story that the decision was made to weld the heritage firearms in the WM because it was cheaper to pay to have them ruined than to register them. I do not know that ALL the firearms held by the WM have been ruined, but I believe that all those on display have been. Certainly isn't a security issue. This policy says a lot about the WM's respect for Canadian heritage.

Import

I DO NOT THINK THESE PISTOLS CAN BE IMPORTED INTO THE SATES?? Due to U S gun laws.
And the Ottawa War Museum or the CDN Air Force should save them.OR GUNNUTZ should try to save them . Good positive PR project , for canadian gun owners.

Not that I could afford even a grip screw off of either gun.......but I wonder if these guns are .45ACP or .455's?
Both are .45ACP, which was the standard Canadian chambering. Matter of fact, the Barker pistol is one of the 5000 1914-production guns purchased by the Canadian Government, whereas the Bishop "presentation piece" is 1915 production which was shipped to a UK dealer ....

If they are indeed in the States then they should have been import marked. If anyone finds out where they are and the price please post the information.
