I went to the Czech Republic for the first time this summer. I spent 4 days in Prague and loved the food and culture though the tourist presence (including myself) was very heavy.

My buddy and I went on the Communism and Nuclear Bunker tour. 3 hour tour and 2.25 hours into it we had made it to the bunker. I wanted to see how it was supposed to work but our tour guide Tomas aka Domass was more interested in flipping his hair and attempting to chat up the incomprehensible oriental ladies that had also sadly donated money to this outfit.

At the bunker, Dumass says, "Ok guys, when we get deeper you can have your picture taken with a real AK 47!". So we get deeper into the place and Dumass leads us through a room of plexibad museum rooms of cold war vintage gas masks, baby masks (no chit), scrub down chambers and badges.

"Now here" Dumass announces, "is an AK 47". It's obviously not. And as my buddy and I had had enough of Dumass, I exclaim from the back, 'That's not an AK, its a VZ 58". Dead silence as the orientals start milling around and taking pictures in my direction. Dumass brings over the deactivated vz and says "This is an AK 47!". I respond...

"No the charging handle is different and the gas block assembly, dust cover and sights are not correct. This rifle was made in Czech republic as it is stamped here..." I show him the Czech proof marks and he turns and walks back with his AK to the front. A bunch of tourists that day got there pictures taken with a "real AK".

Fast forward 5 months and the itch to try another Cold War rifle from Europe has got the best of me. I recently made one offer on EE but it wasn't accepted. My son and I went for hair cuts and went to the last chance saloon on the island to get one. The one on display was in 223 and as my face screwed up the guy said, "we have one is 7.62 on consignment...."

Checked it out and viola....

Great deal with 60 rounds on strippers and 60 rounds loose. The day I bought my sks I also hefted a cz but couldn't justify the price difference. Now I have a bit more coin and I went for it. And tomorrow, the range.

Its coming - gonna put it on "U" and fire at 50 yards. If its high I'll leave it there and shoot the 100. If its still high I'll dial down the front sight.... Can't wait

Hey BB - for sure. Sub 1K which I think is pretty much as good as it gets considering all the reg. retail stores are out of stock and god know what the new prices will be. It came with a quick release optic rail made by CSA so I may have to remove my "nyet" and try it with an optic eventually.

Yeah you are right MMM but the Russians did tell the Czechs to make "their" rifles and the Czechs came up with there own version in 7.62 x 39. So the nyet is more for making a reluctant ak clone than it is for linguistic accuracy.

Yeah I don't get that, if you go through the picture thread many CSAs are hooded and many not. Is it just how they are ordered from factory by the importer?

I have a feeling that not everything on those rifles are newly manufactured. I have a feeling that parts like trigger guards, sights front and rear, sling loops, and any other small part is surplus that they recondition to make it look new. This is just a feeling though. I don't know 100% sure. One thing is for sure though, I like the style of sight post the OP's rifle has and I really don't like the looks of the fully hooded front sight.

This is the first 5 at 50y with sights on "1". Grouped wider but same area at 100. Will take some more pics soon and haven't toyed with the front sight yet. Little windage in order.

Great to shoot, loads easily - mag, stripper clips to mag and thumbing them in. loved the straight up case ejections rather than the sks' flatter side eject where you have to pick your spots to shoot on the line! Super easy to breakdown, clean and reassemble. The trigger has slack to the wall put the break is good. Its sweet.
