Binocular Suggestions?

Doug at cameraland is awesome. I've purchased from him

Vortex Viper 8x42 - awesome optics for reasonable price
Minox 10x42s - can't remember the model, but were blown out prices due to 'color issues' with the rubber housing... But they are immaculate! Very good optics fir the price
Leica Geovid 8x42 - the best

He's great to deal with - no hassles with shipping either! You won't beat his prices up here, especially on his promo type stuff (open box, factory seconds, etc).

Wow, Cameraland has the 8x42 Minox binos on sale for $139 from $280! The only thing is that they are American and by the time I pay all the shipping and international bullsh*t, I will probably be near the original price.

I'll have to do a bit of reasearch to check out Minox quality as well, but if they are as good as you have stated; they should be worth checking out.

I've had good luck with both Minox and Doug.

Bought 3 pairs of bino's from him over the last few years, in each case the shipping was quite reasonable and the box just showed up in my mailbox.

Keep an eye on his demo list: http://www.cameralandny.com/demos-minox.html

Or better yet, give him a call and tell him what you're looking for and what you want to do with them.

Another vote for the Minox Arctic Hunter 8x42, I got it on sale from Cameraland. Good quality and they work well up here in the Nunavut.

I am however looking for a lighter pair to complement these. At 28 ounces they can be heavy at times. I am looking at Vortex Diamondback 8x28 at 14 ounces.

Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions as well as advice. I have made my decision and pulled the trigger on a set of Vortex Crossfire 10x42. Should be a real step up from a set of 10 year old Bushnells!

Total cost

There shipping is reasonable and if you get dinged at the border it is only 12 percent plus $8.50 handling and you didn't pay any taxes in the first place. Sometimes they don't charge anything for some reason. My most expensive purchase last year a Zeiss range finder came with no extra charges.
It is still a good deal and good folks to deal with. Say you are a member here and get new at demo prices. Cheers Roscoe
