Binoculars - What are you using in the field?

what you want is a top notch lens man, not some "guy" from SIR or WHOLESALE- these guys are INTERESTED ONLY IN SELLING YOU THE MOST EXPENSIVE pair of binoc s in the place- ie a REALLY GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER OR SURVEY PERSON- somebody that spends a lot of time in the outdoors and TAKES A LOT OF 'NATURE' photos or scenery- or somebody that worked either at the factory or in the repair/service dept- somebody that HAS NO BIAS OR INTEREST in what you buy personally- other than that, you're probably just as good a judge as the guy behind the counter- remember , it's not themost expensive binoc he's going to sell you , but the one with the WIDEST PROFIT MARGIN

I use a set of older Japanese Tasco 7 power binos. It's the only Tasco item I own and found them in a secon hand shop for $35. I very surprised how clear they were and bought them on the spot.

I may upgrade some day, but binos are a bit of a pain here in the neck. Spotting with my riflescope is much easier.

A have an older pair of Steiners but they were just too bulky. For hill/bush hunting the Burris work fine and if i need more Optic I'll throw the spotter in the pack rather than bigger Bino's. I expect however as the eye's continue to fail, 2-3 hour's glassing will be easier with a nicer pair.

my point exactly- expensive doesn't necessarily define QUALITY- when it comes to binocs, if the company tends to make a good telescope or camera lens ( bushnell and baush and lomb used to make the best astronomicals) , it usually carries over, now with the chinese in the game, it's a crap shoot- you may get"lucky" or not

SC, sometimes they just bump into the bait .

I have a cool little set of Zeiss 8x20 pocket binos my sweet little old mother in law gave me (no kidding) but they are poor in dim light, so I'm going to try for the first time this season a set of 8X40 B&L legacy binos I got at a gun show.

I also have a new cheap set of Bushnell 7X35 binos they sent me to replace my old Bushnell Ensign 7X35 glasses that went wonky on me last season.

They are my back-up set I guess.

The best hunting binoculars I have ever used are 8X42 Steiner Peregrines. I get to try new stuff all the time and if I ever find something better I'll buy it and give the Steiners to my Son.

Quality glass for the $$$$

I have had them all I have a set of 10x42 SLC's I love them however I got a pair of Leica's 10x42 with the rangefinder they are not as comfortable as the Swaros but they are every bit as clear. As for being hard on glasses spend 2500 on apair & you will be amazed how careful you become(LOL) For the money for Joe average hunter apair of 10X Minox is the best bang for the money bar none.Tx.gollum

I use a pair of 10x42 Bausch and Lomb Discoverers. Had them about 6 years and really like them. I tried out quite a few different ones before buying these. I compared glass that was over twice the cost of what I bought and never found a significant difference. Steiners, Leicas, etc maybe slightly better, but for spending in the $500 range instead of over $1000 the difference wasn't big enough for me to want to go to the next level.

I have zeiss EDF 7x40, refurbished german military binos.

Fabulous glass, but I wish they had 1 more power, 8x would be good.

In the Field Zeiss 10x50 + Zeiss 8x30

I have a 8x30 and a 10 x 50 for sale in mint condition with Zeiss bag. Ask for the 8x30 250 Dollar + ship for the 10x50 350 Dollar + ship
both are in good condition and come with the original Zeiss bino bag.
Send me a PM

I ended up getting a pair of Bushnell Excursions 10X32. After looking at and through various models, these seem to be the best bang for the buck. MUCH more clear and brighter than the trophy's I was initially looking at, even with the smaller objective lens. The sales rep at wholesale even let my take a couple pairs outside so I could test them out.

$189. I hear that these may be on sale Friday & Saturday at wholesale in winnipeg. (along with a ####load of other stuff) I have to work all day tomorrow, and I'd have to drive in to get them, so I bought them today anyways. I really like them, I'll report back after this hunting season. :D
