bipod advice?

Hey guys. I just bought a Savage M12 FCV in .223 from another CGNer. Shot it for the first time last night, love it. Problem I'm having is the bipod is too short. When I go to prone off my elbows like I would shoot a rifle without a bipod the feet on this one are 4 or so inches off the deck yet and it throws my position off. I think I'd like a Harris swivel bipod from the research I've done but how tall should it be for prone shooting 9-13? I think the one on this rifle must be a 6-9.
 
Harris .swivel base , 9- 13 length with notched legs is the way to go for prone shooting.I have a couple of them and really like them.
Get a pod locking lever as well .It makes it easier to lock the bipod into position.
It is the lever facing the trigger group on my rifle

Laying flat on your chest is more stable then off your elbows and obviously gets you lower. This alone helped my prone shooting quite a bit. I always bring a few 2X6 pieces of lumber roughly 20" long so I can stack them under either end to adjust elevation with my bags or bipod. Not high tech by any means but it works good.
 
I guess I'm just worried that it will affect my TR style shooting with my milsurps if I get used to a lower position with this rifle. I used a 2x6 under the bipod feet tonight doing a ladder test and the result was very promising. I don't use a rear bag (yet) and shooting my Garand and Lee-Enfields I use an issued sling and elbows, no rest or bag and I do pretty good at it, just worried position for one might mess with the other. I'll try getting lower next outing too and see if it works for me.
 
I have a lot of bipods and the 9-13" Harris swivel is the favorite for hunting.

In 2012 I am going to try to work the Atlas bipod into my act and try to work a pair of arrows as steady sticks into my act, but will probably just hunt with the Harris 9-13 S.

They can be a pain in the ass to install, but definitely worth the effort.

For my purposes outside of F-Class shoots a 6-9" Harris Swivel with a pod loc and pod claws is about perfect. In competitions I use a Sinclair 2nd Gen but will likely be moving to a Star Shooter CF bipod for next year.
 
Since no one said it yet, my favorite is a Versa-Pod.

I have a 5-7", a 7-9" and a 9-12". I use the 5-7" most. 9-12" is to tall for almost all shooting positions.
 
Forgot to mention I'm a big man with long arms and a barrel chest. I tried my father in law's 9-13 last night and it steadied my shots up lots. The 6-9 gets a LOT of heartbeat/pulse motion, chest must be too flat on the ground. Problem is gone with his.
