Bipod For Marlin 336bl?

Anyone ever put one on a 336bl?

The sling stud is forward of the wood, so the Caldwell I got won't fit (gave it to my boy) and I would rather not screw up the barrel or the mag with a clamp on.

I have seen one with a picatinny rail attached to the bottom of the handguard, which was almost set into the wood, and a bipod on the picatinny rail.
