I am looking to get a bipod for my target rifle and I will be shooting prone... I am unsure which length of legs to get between the 6"-9" or 9"-13"?? My first thought is that the 6"-9" would be more suitable as I shoot mainly with my .22LR. Any help would be appreciated.

Shorter is better for most prone shooting.

If you get too high, supporting the rear of the rifle becomes difficult and your position becomes less stable.

If you are curious to know how it would feel, get a stack or books or magazines or whatever you have around, and measure them at 6", 9" and 13" off the ground, and rest the front of the stock on the stack while you are lying down in prone looking through the scope. Whatever feels the most comfortable in two of the three positions is what you should go with. Just remember that you may spend 30min to 1hr + in that position when you are shooting, so make sure you are not getting any muscle strain from those positions.

I use a 6 - 9" bipod for prone and bench shooting.

In the upper range it works well for prone, and in the lowest setting it works great for shooting off a bench.

The next size up (9 - 13"?) might be a bit high, especially for flat, bare ground, short grass shooting, but it may work better in the field for hunting. Also, I know the 9 - 13" is far too high for bench rest shooting.

Only other thing I can offer is to purchase a good quality, name brand bipod, the 'knock offs' look close to the real deal, but they break/fail after little use.

^ This....

I agree and think the Harris swivel base 9-13 in notched leg version is the best route for me ...such much so I have 2 of them now .I added the Bipod locking lever as it makes it easier to use as well.
90% of my shooting is from the prone position

I added a Yankee hill picatinney rail adapter from fabsports to mount it on my Polytech

Harris "s" 6-9", and get the pod-loc for added function. But I'm short, so It works just fine for me and the big guy I shoot with.

Good video ......after watching this I bought 2 of the swivel base notched leg 9-13 inch ...cuz I didnt want my #### to fall off :D

I use both the 6"-9" and 9"-13". They work great on lighter rifles but I find its a little unstable on heavier rifles specially on uneven grounds. So I've decided to try and build a more sturdier bipod. Just finished this yesterday.
This one is adjustable from 6"-9.5" and swivels.

That does not look like a home made 'special'. Very nice work there MH.
More pics and engineering details would be welcome!.

The 6-9" Harris swivel with pod lock works for me. Almost always used on flat ground for level shots.

Uphill field shots?, yeah that's a bit short. But the 9-13" is too high for comfortable pure prone.

Wish there was a 7-10.5 incher. V:I:

:agree:

I added Pod Claws to mine, which added some stability when loading it, and also raised it up about an inch, which is perfect for me. With that said, I prefer my Sinclair F-Class bipod.

Jerry at Mystic precision makes a really nice unit also I am told (still waiting for mine to arrive) also. I have also recently bought a Sinclair Tactical bipod and am pretty freakin impressed with it. It is so adjustable I don't think there's a bench or prone situation you could put yourself in that it wouldn't work. The downside is it is quite heavy, but being mounted on my 338LM who cares as the thing is a beast to begin with. For the price point you could have 2 harris' for what one costs but so far I am impressed. I'll chime in again once the MPOD from mystic shows up also. Just my $.02.
