Hi,

I'm still thinking about a bipod and contemplating what length will suit my needs best. My question is, when it says it is a 9" bipod is that how long each leg is or is that how high the gun will sit?

Thanks!
Evan

Ok so the barrel actually sits approx. 4 inches higher that the hight of the bipod. I know this is dependant on the gun of course. So with a 13" - 23" it would probablly sit at about 17" - 27". Does this sound correct?

For prone - 9-13 range is nice. 6-9 is fine on the bench but too low for prone...at least from my experience. We carry both Versapod and Harris Swivel Bipods, plus locking lever kits... Joe

I also have the 6-9" versapod with the tilt attachment. It is perfect for prone and some types of bench. I am a thin person and it works great for me.

According to Harris the 9-13 is the largest selling bipod. The BR 6-9 is designed specifically for the bench.. although we can see it can be used with success in prone in some situations.

From my experience, a very well groomed field or specially contoured field is required for the short models.. BR style..

Yea, I can see that the 6-9 may be iffy if the grass is longer, but I would say that for thin people who can lay low, it would be good for prone and 9-13 may be a little to high actually (for me at least).

It really depends on the body type really, for those with big guts or otherwise larger girths, the 9-13 would be ideal.

I think I am going to try the shooters ridge one out. Only 50 bucks and if I find I want something better down the line I can move on to a harris or something. How are these bipods at handling recoil? I just want to make sure it isn't going to fall apart on me if I shoot my .30-06 with it.

I'm going to use it for different guns, mainly .22 (which I know it will handle) but I may also try it out on my .30-06 and my .45 cal muzzleloader just for fun :).

I made a bipod from a pair of discarded youth ski poles. All I paid was $2.5 for a set of locking nuts. With an adjustable height from 24-30” it is good for sitting or kneeing positions.

When not used, it serves as a good walking stick. :D

Not sure what the quality of the newer shooters ridges are, but at one time they were one step behind the Harris. If you can handle both, I would recommend you do that before you buy. When you get the to the taller units you may find the Harris to be a better choice especially in the long run.
