bipod on M96 ?

Just did some more reading and some guys are just putting sling studs or using Harris AR adaptors through the the plastic foreend - is this a good practice considering the weight of the gun on the bipod, all resting on a plastic forend ? Only as strong as your weakest component... ?
 
I don't know about the M-96. But, I very easily and securely mounted a Harris Bi-Pod on my SL8. The fore-end has various threaded holes for the purpose of mount accessories.

I`t works just fine, the plastic handguard does not float, it sits on a metal cage that is around the barrel.
