Bipod on Ruger #1

I put a 24" bipod on my No1 303 British, along with bedliner the wood stock. Had the metal powder coated 'cast iron' for that stainless look. Barrel fluted and a panzer brake installed. 6.5-20x56mm Leupold on top.

I call BS Mark! :p

If you actually did all that, Bill Ruger himself would come out of his grave to hunt you down and ##### slap you all the way to PG and back!

:D

If it puts you in the field more, or helps your shot placement, then who gives a F*** what anyone else thinks about what you do to your rifles.

Just don't put a plastic stock on your lever...

I thinking about a Harris bipod for my #1V in 22-250 which is not shot all that often. I have read that #1's are subject to forend pressure and wonder if the bipod will make the groups inconsistent when the rifle is used without the bipod. Any real world experience out there? Thanks.

Hiredgun, I have that bipod on that rifle, and it is not sensitive at all. Having said that, I have a #1-B that is hyper sensitive to any fore end pressure, but as long as you do not push down on the grip, it shoots very well off a bipod.

Even though Leeper, Cat and BUM will probably never talk to me again for admitting this, I have done just that (added a stud) to my #1-H in 375 H&H. With the bipod attached that 375 is a 400 yard rifle (I can regularly hit clays at that distance with 260 grain NBTs).

Wow. I don't know what to say. But Google Maps can give you directions to Home Depot!

I shot this mule doe 12 days ago with a Ruger #1 7mmRemMag 180 gr VLD 3025 fps off a Harris swivel bi- pod at 380 yards.

The elevation correction was 4.5 moa from a 200 yard zero.

I would like to see someone make that shot WITHOUT a bi pod.

Sure, toss it over my backpack ;). Hell, i know guys that shoot that far prone with a sling and irons!

Uh, 385 meters is where we shoot the turkey silhouette offhand.

I had a ruger in 308 that did almost that on a white tail, and the a mule deer buck I shot on the river a few years back was 372 lasered IIRC, kneeling form a gravel bar and uphill.
Not a big deal if you know your rifle.

I wouldn't shoot at a deer at 380 yards from offhand. I shoot well, but not that well. A man has to know his limitations. However from an unsupported prone position this wouldn't be a big deal. It would be easier yet with a shooting sling. In spite of being bedded at the forend tip my #1B shoots fine with a sling, just 2 MOA lower.

However, my #1B does wear a bipod a lot of the time simply because it is a steadier shooting position and I'm less likely to mess up a shot which makes me more comfortable. At times though, I have left the bipod at home knowing that I can also rest the rifle over my pack.

I don't have a #1 with a barrel band sling swivel but I do plan to get a #1A and when I do, it will never wear a bipod. I can shoot unsupported, rest over a pack or use shooting sticks, which the notch in the forend was actually meant for in the old days.
