Bipod position?

After looking at a bunch of different threads, most recently the one with the "new Nemises", I see that the nemises uses a very aft position for the bipod. Does this help with accuracy. My 308 stud for my harris is pretty far out near the end of the stock, and I realize that the nemises does not have a stock to mount said bipod near the front of the rifle.

Anybody have some reasoning behind their prefererences? Have you tried both bipod positions and had greater/lesser results?

Thanks,
Evan

Take my info with a grain of salt. With stocks with two studs, usually the bipod is mounted in the very front one. Reason being that the stud closer to the shooter is used for the sling. This way, the bipod sits ahead of the sling and does not get entangled with the legs. Some bipods have an additional stud built into them for a sling. On the other hand, being mounted on the furthest stud adds the most amount of weight the stock must support and if your stock isn't solid enough, can cause the stock to flex and make contact with the barrel. The further the bipod is away from the shooter provides the most stability.

Think of the difference as a teeter totter with the fulcrum point in the middle of the board vs a board with the end resting on a block........which seems like it would a sturdier platform to shoot from?

Why do dragsters have such a long wheelbase?

I have found a very long forend to help in the tracking with a bipod - note that this is for a skipod which has vastly different needs then a Harris.

But accuracy is a relative thing. Min of bad guy on a field expedient rest might be all that is required.

Or it could be trying to hit a coffee cup at 10 football fields.
