I recently bought a Savage 12FV in 22-250 for varmints and yotes. I would like to put a bipod on it for prone shooting at the range and in the field. I have searched and found threads on which brand is best, cheapest, etc. but nothing helping me pick the size I want. WSS lists the Rock Mount bipod in a 9"-13" version and a 13.5"-23". I am leaning towards the longer one, because stubble and grass may make prone impossible and require sitting, but 13.5" sounds pretty tall for prone.

Which one for prone field shooting?

Thanks,
Mark

Can you see youself actually shooting prone at varmints and coyotes? Would there be grass, snow, obstacles to vision that would get in the way of lying prone out in the field?. I have the extra tall Harris that goes up to I believe 26". Its great for sitting on the ground and shooting. Gets you up high enough by sitting rather than shooting prone.

I have one that measures 8" closed and 12.5" extended that is just a little tall for prone in the collapsed position. This is when laying down on the flat ground with no grass in front.

For the little difference in cost go with the Harris. Probably for your needs (field as well as range use) you may have to go with 2. The BRM-S with a pod-loc is excellent for range use. Then whichever pod works for your field situation(terrain and surroundings will dictate).
