Bipod Recommendations for PRS - Your opinions please

I agree. This sport seems to be evolving into a carnival of over the top cheesy stages that get decided upon how steady a position you can get using 40#'s of additional $hit you have to carry with you to be competitive. Its actually getting to be borderline laughable.
I've know guys (hunters) that would tune up half these guys in real world "improvised positions" if pillows, bags, barricades and bipods with 14 sets of legs Etc. weren't available as a crutch.

IMO U.S. PRS is moving too rapidly in a direction similar to IDPA, IPSC etc.

I have been thinking this for a while..........turning into IPSC with a rifle...........In real life the more crap you pack, the less room for essentials such as food, water, and bullets.........and through my sources who deal with Special Forces, the SF is looking at going lighter with a lot of their gear.........

Flashy shirts, speed holsters, magnets and sick anodizing.

They're the easiest shooters to spot.

Hehe.

I have no comment about PRS's direction. From what I gather it was started as a challenge for riflemen. Fun events that grew into competition, etc. Where things are timed and shots scored there will always be that progression of whatever makes it easier or faster.

It started as field shooting matches because people wanted to shoot something that had all of the things you get in real life that you don't get on a square range.. It exploded in popularity in the mid 2000's because guys returning from Iraq saw the value in practicing all of the improvised positions because they were almost never able to shoot from a prone position over there.

The IPSC comments make me laugh. If that's IPSC, I guess the majority of our PR matches are PPC or Olympic pistol. One nice even distance at a time, wind flags, shot makers and all of the other square range training wheels. Movers that are always the same speed and the same distance. F-Class bipods with big rabbit ear bags, only 90 degree shots (no inclines/declines), shooting prone off flat manicured grass with generous timing and no movement to get the heart rate up. Matches being won more often by single shot F-Class rifles and scoped TR rifles with 30" barrels (because those are practical). All of that hand-holding is a far bigger crutch than any bag or bipod extension in a field match will ever be. Timings and having to carry all of your gear with you in a pack, and sometimes through the stage, limits what can be brought and used effectively. Which is a far better way that arbitrary rules that limit practical equipment but allow things like towing equipment around in wagons, gardening carts or cars that are parked behind mounts like you see at the square range matches.

Hey!

I have a cart for 3G. Best 120$ I've ever spent! All my ammo for the day, two guns, gear, and even room for a small cooler for snack and beverages. Pull cooler out and it functions as a seat.

But I'd agree. You do see more and more neon guns showing up for PRS. The abortions I've seen of the JAE stock are shocking. Such a beauty ruined for flash and fame. (That guy with the ugly gun).

Either way, it's interesting to watch what happens, but there is the potential I guess for new branches of the sport if it goes too far one way or the other.

No point debating with "PRS Guy".

I guess we'll all see what this series evolves into. Maybe something great, maybe something IPSC like.
Pre-order your flashy team uniform now and send the gun in for "stars and stripes" paint job while there's no line up.

If you consider that IPSC is the way it is because of the shooters ongoing quest for a competitive edge, and the organizations inability or unwillingness to control it, then any shooting sport has the potential to go down that path.

So, you're finished with the square range matches finally?

Pretty much. I could never really get into them for very long. Too repetitive. I only have so much vacation time. Travel and hotels costs are the same, match fee is higher, but the prize tables more than offsets that.
