If the old lady is with me I get her to bend over and grab her ankles. Makes for a nice rest. Other than that a good sturdy tree.
Good thing we are gentlemen on this forum otherwise we would have come up with a whole pile of interesting comments on your wife's shooting support stance.
I gotta ask at least one question...do you shoot from behind her bum or in front of her face(albeit bent over to her ankles)? No imaginative images or photos required
LOL - I don't use a sling except to carry the rifle. I shoot very well offhand, standing, sitting or laying on my belly. I don't shoot kneeling cause like a few others here, I have bad knees and have had surgery on them both. That's why the last few years most of my shots have been across the hood of the truck.
I couldn't be bothered twisting my arm through a sling or getting into some fancy ching sling setup. When I see game and it's in range, I shoulder, aim and shoot. I don't have time to stop and play silly sling games.
That's why the last few years most of my shots have been across the hood of the truck.
Well Captain, keep in mind we have rules here at CGN, Please read them.
Unless of course you are physically disabled and if so please say so in the future. Not just that you have a bum knee, I have two of those myself...

It's perfectly legal to use the hood of your truck as a rest.

It is illegal to shoot from, or across, roadways, but if I'm not on a legal road and most definitely not shooting from or across one, there is nothing illegal about leaning across the hood of my truck.
Where we hunt, there are lots of access roads created by farmers to access their fields which aren't legal surveyed right of ways (or actual roads). If I pull off to the side of one, step out of the driver seat, lean across the hood and take aim at something out in the field (away from the access) then what I'm doing is perfectly legal.
If I'm out in the middle of a stubble field the same is also true.
I'm always aware which are, and which aren't legal roads and/or right of way's and I do not shoot from, or across a legal road.
If I'm on a legal road and I spot game, and I can, I will drive off the road and out into the field and then get out and lean across the hood. Most times though, I pull over get out and walk out into the field until I'm legal distance, and then sit and shoot. As I did my moose this past fall. In the case of my moose, I was about 250 to 300 yards from the legal road shooting across an open quarter towards heavy bush (with my back facing the roadway).
All perfectly legal if I'm not mistaken. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and I said "two" bum knees, not one. I've had surgery on the left one twice and the right one once...so far.
Alberta hunting regulations state the following:
#7 have a loaded firearm (live ammunition in breech, chamber or magazine) in or on, or discharge a weapon from
* a boat unless the boat is propelled by muscular power or is at anchor and the person is hunting, or
* any kind of aircraft or vehicle whether it is moving or stationary.
Note: Ammunition may be carried in a magazine that is not attached to the firearm. Click here for contact information regarding federal firearms legislation.
Far freaking out!
I stand corrected....
I have to wonder what the reasoning is for this. It makes no sense whatsoever. Oh well, when in Rome...................
