Bipod to hang the rifle

So I've got a problem with scope cant.:redface: I try to verify with my level frequently but it bothers me that my rifle always wants to be tippy on that pedestal of a harris bipod.

I've always liked the idea of a bipod that would hang the rifle from ABOVE the barrel so that it would act as a plumb bob, fixing my cant problem.:d

Something that would attach to the 12 0'clock rail and not get in the way of the scope too much...

Alas, I have found something online. I'm thinking about ordering.... :confused:

have a look at my MPOD. With the new cant feature, once locked, the rifle will not change the level setting.

The problem is how bipods lock up or lack of lock up in the roll axis.

Works even with the torque of really big boomers and super heavy rifles.

And yes, I did pick up my FTR rifle which is 18lbs with the cant locked up and the setting didn't change.

Looks like a pretty solid bipod. Might be worth a try on my magnums.

For practical shooting, I prefer a stiff but adjustable cant so I can level the rifle as I move. It's pretty rare to get flat/level ground to shoot from

this is a good answer (and cheap solution) the pod lock system tightens down the harris and it is solid, there will be no flopping of the bipod top once installed.

If you are talking torque issues with your rifle i agree with the idea of lowering the rifles centre of gravity. the horse shoe bipods are far more effective at removing torque. and in the spirit of this forum "black tactical rifles" the mpod is not the best option...I have the LRA and it is rock solid but the leg manipulation is not as quick as the harris. ( i have and still you the harris) A buddy of mine has recently picked up the phoenix and he hasn't gotten enough time to have a first impression with it. We plan at some point to test both systems to compare but that will be sometime in the summer.

My only caveat with the phoenix and returning to zero cant is that any rear support; the rifle is resting on will influence the rifles ability to return to zero cant or perpendicular to the ground.

oh and you need a chassis system or DTA to be able to use the phoenix, or you are left with modding your mcmillian to accept a picatinny

Go with Ryan's suggestion... if that doesn't work borrow and LRA or bipod you think fits and see how it works out

I'm using a Desert Tech SRS A1 so I do have quad rail chassis setup, monopod for the buttstock.

Some great advice here. I sure do appreciate the feedback on the phoenix Trevor. Hopefully you can get some more data on that unit and share with us?

I'm certainly looking for more data on the EliteIron Revolution. Anyone ever used one? Who brings it to Canada?
 
Go with an LRA sniper choice. That one comes up/around the forend. I believe reliable gun has it in stock. Personally I run a LRA light tactical from PGW on my lefty srs-a1. If you were local, I'd let you try out my LRA. It really works well with the rifle and monopod. My only issue is the polymer rail section from DT, I'm planning on getting the aluminum one from primal rights in USA. I feel that the polymer flexes too much side to side. But yours probably has them built in.
 
I have the polymer rail piece on the bottom as well. It does work fine with the Harris I have. Aluminum would be a nice upgrade. If you are going to bring one in, let me know. I'd be interested in that as well.

The LRA does look like a fine unit, with a price to match. But I'm really leaning towards a bipod that "hangs" the rifle more than anything. If I'm going to get a pricey bipod, may as well go all the way and get what I really want.

doesn't mounting the bipod to the barrel defeat the purpose of free floating the barrel? I would foresee it having a negative impact on accuracy and consistency.
 
The bipod attached to a pic rail on bottom, then the bipod actually encircles the barrel. I guess depending on barrel length, if 22" would be inside the circle of the bipod.
 
any time... You are in luck the guy that has the Phoenix is/will be running it on a DTA. Not sure which model; in 300win mag. When i talk to him next i will ask.

Turns out that the polymer rail was loose. It kept slowly working it's way loose. I realized yesterday after I took it out and was grouping horribly. I mean 1.2"-0.500" the best group was 1/2" rest were 3/4-1". I thought I was the problem, went to clean the rifle and realized that the rail had about 1/8" play in it. Took off the rail and loctited the crap out of the bolts, very solid now. I think that was the problem all along. I'm going to keep an eye on it, hopefully won't need to spend 150 usd on a rail.

Good to know. I took off the side rails. I will Loctite the bottom as you recommend before it becomes a problem.

I did hear back from Eliteiron. No dealer in Canada. Anyone interested in becoming their dealer in the great white north?
I want one... What do you think is the easiest way to get one here?
