Bipods for Long Range Rifles

Thanks!

I see I need to take in a match.

So what are some of the best rear bags?

According to ICFRA, F-Class rifle weight Restrictions are as follows:

F-Class (Open): 10 kg (or 22 lbs)
F-Class (FTR): 8.25 kg (or 18.17 lbs)

In BC, the newly adopted F-Class (Sporter) weight restrictions are inconsistent when I look at the 2010 entry forms; mostly 12 lbs, one 12.5 lbs and one listed as high as 18 lbs!!

The brand I most often see is "Protektor". If you're on a budget, (as I am) you can go with a knock-off, like "Shooters Ridge". The difference being that the first is all leather, and the second is mostly vinyl, with the top bit being leather. Eventually, the vinyl will break down where the leather likely wouldn't, but how long that will take is anyone's guess.
I'll upgrade to the Protektor one day, but I'm a believer in getting into the game with what you have or can afford, rather than waiting until you have all the best kit before you start competing.

Just getting started in F-Class, have a Savage Model 12 F/TR.
Would you recommend the notched legs with the swivel model?
I'm just getting started, but am hoping to go into competition this summer.
Looking for advise on Rifle rests: the best way to start (a bipod or rest).
Okay, so you're shooting 308 or 223. You are in F-TR class, FM class in Ontario, because you are using a factory rifle. There is a F(F) class in the DCRA championship, but not to worry about that quite yet. When you use a Remple or a Sinclair bipod, it seriously cuts into your weight allowance for other accessories. I would recommend a Harris bipod with CoreTac attachments. Pricey, but effective. His customized Harris bipods will help to reduce torque, but not limit your ability to mount a biga$$ scope on the rifle due to weight limitations. He's on the net.

Go to an ORA practice...there is one this weekend (Sat.) at Base Borden Mons rifle range. There will be some F'ers there that will answer your questions.

We passed a motion at the AGM and the specs are now official: 12 Pounds.
I will pass a copy to you when i get home.

I already have a Protektor rear bag, but wont it rock around on uneven ground? I also have one of those donut things (never bother to fill it) do they help?
Not that I'm wealthy, but rifles have always been a priority of mine.

Time is always my biggest issue.:(

I would prefer to start with the best equipment and let my skills be the only weakness in my shooting.....Significant weakness in this case. :D

If I could get Ian to call me back about one of his barrels I could get things underway! :D

Thanks for the help...I am pretty much clueless about F-Class.

Very nice!

I noticed the ears are cordura...Does the slipperiness help?

Have you tried the Gator?

No wonder you F-class guys have those funny carts!

I have the minigator with built in handle, its smaller than the gator but larger than their original bag. Awesome rear bag, I spray the cordura with silicon to get it slippery. The handle is a great feature, makes hauling my gear around alot easier.
