looking for some info on bipod length for winter yote hunting in the snow. I have a Harris Ultralight 23" and find it short just sitting in the house, what are you using? sticks or bipod?

Length

I think the one I use it around 30" and its not enough (sinks in snow) I would recommend a single stick (goes really high) then the bi-pod. Reason being it never fails a coyote will approach from the wrong angle and you will have to re-set the bipod, meaning you revealed yourself. Its hard to call and shoot all by yourself.

I use a set of shooting sticks I made. ~ 3 ft long with wood screws sticking out the bottom to stock to ice/frozen ground. I also have snow skits that I can use when there is snow on the ground. I tried bipods for a while, but soon found that the height of the sticks was usually more suitable for me.

I made these about a decade ago out of hardwod square stock. The only thing I've had to change is the rubberbands.

I have a Harris 27" swivel. Use it for big game as well as varmints. No complaints but it will make your rifle a bit heavyer if you plan to walk a lot. 119.00 bucks at Scheels in the US.

I do more walking than sitting while I'm coyote hunting.

I find a rifle slung with a bipod on wants to slide backwards because of the extra weight.

I use bipods in the gopher patch.

Coyote hunting I just shoot while sitting down.

I like the Stoney Point PoleCat bipod. I can remove it and walk, keep them stuck together like a pole, or spread them like a bipod. They also swivel or you can just leave it in the truck if you aren't going to use them, as the snap on and off in seconds. You can buy extra mounts and use it on all your guns without having to screw around. Best "hunting" bipod I've used!

I agree with Courtntan with the Stoney Point Polecat Bipod sticks. i have 2 sets and i think they are the best. I have had the same problem with deep snow, and this was the best solution. there is no problem with canting, swivelling etc.

Buy a set and you wont be dissapointed.

For years I carried a set of old fiberglass ski-poles I picked up at a garage sale.Removed the webbing ,cut off both handles and straps then epoxied dowel in the cut ends about 6" inside.Drill a hole in the dowels and use a rubber washer between the sticks with a bolt and locknut.Killed a lot of varmints and big game off of those..................Harold...hockey tape prevent marring the gun fore end in the crotch of the sticks
