Bipods

I have a Harris bipod that I use sometimes. I'm not sure anymore, but at one time they were about the most popular ones around.

I have 2 of Harris notched leg 9-13 inch swivel base with locking lever. The lever was an add on and glad i bought them as well.
The 6-9 inch is for bench rest shooting and I find the 9-13 inch works great in the prone position

Here is a video explaining why I went that way instead of the smooth leg variety.

Swivel with notched legs is the best version of the Harris in my opinion. Harris's can be had for around $130.00 in that configuration. There are other brands that make knock off's of the Harris, but I can't vouch for them. I've had the cheap Chinese clones and they have problems, but are usable on a budget. The mechanism that locks onto the swivel stud is very light weight, tends be tighten up crooked, and leave the bipod canted. The padding slides and the bipod ends up damaging your stock. These can be had for under $40 on ebay.

I have 6 or 7 Harris bipods and none swivel.
I sent two back to Harris Engineering as the spring tension was getting low or there was some dirt in the legs. I paid the shipping to Kentucky, and they paid the return.
They do warn that if you send a "non-Harris Bipod" it will not be returned.
Since the patent on Harris ran out, there are a number of knock off's on the market.
The Harris bipods can be ordered online.

Thanks for posting the video. You may have just saved me from making a mistake. Looks like the notched & swivel will be what I get.

I'd like to get one for my stevens 200 and was wondering if anyone use them and what brand they are using.

Thanks.

Harris bi-pods is the one that I've been using for years. If you do purchase one check on the bi-pod where it was made. Some were made in China which they had problems with. The bi-pod stamped with "Made in USA" is of course better quality.

I was just charged $30.00 handling on a $67.00 Brownells order. :(

Lebarons prices are pretty close, and take off the Lebarons Club 10% and they are actually cheaper on some. Have to check if the can get the notched leg models though. They don't list them. ht tp://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_files_fall12/chrony_harris.pdf

Sorry for the thread hi-jack. I'm just realizing how much it really costs to get lower US priced parts. I had another look at my recent Brownells purchase, and I had to pay Canada Post $8.50 handling fee +tax $8.65. So my $67.00 purchase turned into $114.00.

$67.00 order
$30.00 handling (controlled firearms parts?)
$8.50 Canada Post
$8.65 tx

Got 3 Harris bipods, including one with a swivel that is particularly good for benchrest work. Yep, more money, but from what I've seen well worth the extra. I prefer the models in which the legs are springloaded to extend, as opposed to retract.

Never leave home without one attached to my hunting rifle, have accounted for too many one shot kills that would otherwise have been pretty sketchy going, if at all even possible.
