What kind of bi-pod would you recommend (preferrably Harris)? I'm looking for one that's kind of "standard issue"; something found on an M24 or an LE rifle.

The Swivel models are DEFINATELY worth the added cost.

I prefer the tallest bipods (13"-23") with swivel, as I'm a big dude and like to ability to shoot while sitting, rather than prone.

They are a bit heavier than the shorter models though...
 
I like the Harris swivel bipod. I have yet to have one come back to the shop. We offer locking levers for both the Harris and Shooters Ridge bipods. If you spare the extra $$ stick with the Harris brand. I believe Shooters have been improving but last I looked they had a ways to go.

We also stock Versa Pod...but most people I know perfer the Harris. The Harris swivels are $129 and we have some of the lowest prices on the Versa Pod line.

Definitely invest in a swivel model!

Good advice. I bought a 6-9 swivel with the notched legs from ### with a locking lever. Great product, great guy as well!
 
Harris swivel model with pod-lock, and there's also a model with incremental notches on the legs (edit*which I just noticed is mentioned above), so you can lengthen them to sizes inbetween 6-9", pretty cool.
 
I have the Harris 9"-13" swivel notch-leg model, and find it almost too tall for shooting prone. It seems I always have the legs fully compressed. The shorter (6"-9"?) model would probably be better, and would also work from a shooting bench.
 
I have a Haris 6-9 on my Savage, but there is no compairison to my original Parker Hale. If you can get your hands on one and are willing to pay the $$$,
there is nothing like it.

Yes, if you are on a unlevel surface or just have a sling swivel stud that is not centered perfectly, you will have one leg sticking down farther than the other when you are holding the rifle level. With the swivel model you can just adjust the bipod a bit so both legs are firmly on the ground when you aim.

It does not allow you to follow a target as it passes in front of you from left to right, which is the impression some people mistakenly get when they hear it "swivels".
 
The swivel offers rotation in the plane perpendicular to the ground. Or another way to explain it is imagine spinning the bipod around your rifle barrel/forend. Except with the bipod you can't move it 360 degrees around. only a few degrees. To level the cross hairs on a bipod without swivel you have to extend or retract a leg or use your hand to raise one side. The swivel is quick and easy.

As Cariboo kid mentioned it does not allow you to follow game (rotate in a plane parallel to the ground.
 
Oh ok, thanks. I'm not looking for something that swings, that would hardly be stable or practical, so I think a swivel is what I'm looking for.

Also, what length? I'm 6'1.

The GG&G do look nice, I ordered one through a guy on this board but it never did pan out. And yes the Sako is beautiful but the $700 price tag is a bit ridiculous even for a Gunnut.

IVO - So you never did get the GG&G? I was looking into bringing them into Canada but they didn't seem to interested. Couple that with being so damn busy it just never happened. It sure does look like a nice rest.
 
What length should I get? 9-13 or 6-9? 9-13 seems a bit high; I don't plan on using the bipod for sitting. What's the US Army standard issue? I'm 6'1 if that and arm length have anything to do with height of the butt.
Also (this is hard to explain), but can the rotating swivel be tightened so as to not move at all? In a sense, are you able to just adjust the position of the rifle?
