Anyone following the bubblegum IPSC threads on the BE forum?

Some serious flak flying about the alleged "degeration" of the sport from the IDPA Cooperesque mall ninja zombie smacking two to the body one to the head crowd.

Interesting comments about the move from a good balance of 3-2-1 (or whatever you like) short-med-long course to a match full of long courses with close (too close?) targets.

Fascinating reading, especially when you read how the USPSA guys are trying to figure out why they no longer dominate the international practical shooting scene.

What do you canucks think, is there too much hosing going on up here? :D

Not anymore.

BTW, The Bubble gum stuff comes following an article in the USPSA newsletter by one of thier pros...Ron Avery.

I think my thoughts are pretty well known.

While I am uninterested in the scenario behind a stage (but if that's what gets you off, more power to you...), I want shooting challenges to test shooting ability.

Last year's Ontario provincials and our nationals were they way it should be. Longer range, awkward shooting positions, no-shoots, partials, hard cover, bobbers, plates...(but maybe not black ones on black railroad ties in the shade :D )

You don't segregate the good shooters from the bad by having "4 3-foot-away-full-targets" to spray as you run past.

We don't need the 3-2-1 deal though, we can offer serious shooting challenges in long and medium courses and keep the entertainment level up.

I am studying for my black badge course, when you get a rule # 5.6.8.3, so that would be rule 5, 6th subsection. With at least 8 subsections, in that subsection and 3 subsections of it. I have to wonder if people are taking things a wee bit to seriously…

(I made that number up, in case you are diving into the rule book, my brain hurts to much to look up a real example right now.)

I much prefer the matches last year compared to the ones the year before...

4 arrays of targets with 4 targets each....not much fun.....

I thought the Florida Open was a decent test of shooting ability. There were only a few hosed targets.

I thought there were great transitions as they only ever had one target on each stand! (IIRC)

Our ten round mag restriction actually makes this game more fun too. (I know, I hate to say it!)

Maybe USPSA should try an O10 (open10) or SSO (single stack open) division to get away from the big stick boring stages.

Not likely I guess.:p

How can you say the big stick boring stages. Are they more interesting if you have to do 4 or more stages. If you shoot open it is the F1 of ipsc or uspsa shooting. You do not whant to slow them down you want to see how fast you can go shooting not mag changing. Remember this ipsc not idpa ther is nothing defensive about ipsc , ipsc is aggresive. last years Ontario provincials was a great match it challenged you in way's that a lot of matches do not like making you run back wards.

Use props to make people move insted of putting 4 tergets on a stand at 3 feet to hose put no shoots ( thats right they are no shoots again ) lots of no shoots hard cover put target were you have to slow down and aim. A lot of the matches are getting better people are getting more creative with stages and matches

just my $.02

I have to get back into the BE forums. I read the Ron Avery article, and maybe it's my Canadian-not-allowed-to-own-or-carry-for-defense-only-for-competition semi-liberal (note: that's NOT an upper case L in front of that word) mentality, but I LIKE Bubblegum stages.

I like stages where you pretend to be the Easter Bunny, or shoot targets that represent giant tomatoes or other wacky stuff like that because I think of IPSC as a game. The more the stage gets away from "real life scenarios" the better.

Heck, if I had the time, I'd paint purple dinosaurs, smurfs, ghosts, goblins and other non-real defensive scenario things and populate ALL of my stages with them.

I'm not hacking on big stick mags or open guys, I'm just commenting on some of the things said in the thread on the BE forum.

I'm all for high caps, but I think having to plan 4 mag changes instead of one makes for a more interesting and challenging stage. My only point really is that in the US Limited guys have the choice to shoot L10, why not the open guys too?

I'm considering shooting open myself. They are called race guns for a reason.

I agree that last year's Ont provincials were extraordinary. I can't wait to see what they will have for the nationals this year.

:)

hungrybeagle if you like stages like that you should shoot area2. I shoot it for the first time this past year , they had a stage with all kinds of cartoon props
( bugs taz and all the rest ) holding targets targets part of there bodys. One wasw barrny with a classic target in his belly , one guy in my squad putt two in the A and one in the head ( he realy hates barrny ) and still it was a tuff stage.
