Birchwood Casey Sealer & Filler?

I have used the B-B sealer with okay results but no better than any other sanding sealer or a light application of lacquer to seal porous wood. It will reduce the number of coats of finish required to fill the pores and thus you can keep the wood lighter in color than if you simply applied many saturating coats of oil finish. You can fill porous wood by sanding lightly with 400 wet/dry paper and a few drops of Tru-oil or other finish so the sanding dust/finish fills the pores and keeps the color of the wood true to itself. I have the filler but have never used it - would rather use the sanding dust/oil finish process.
Also, I have found that one or two very light coats of Tru-oil or other finish (I like clear Danish Oil) at the start will effectively seal the pores so subsequent heavier applications don't soak as deep, darken the wood and mute the grain pattern. Experiment a bit where it won't show, as in the barrel channel...
