i got a new mossy 500 12 guage. and this fall i will be grouse hunting but will have my bear tag.

now normally hunting for birds i drive my truck and carry a rfile and a single shot 12 gauge fixed full choke. this year we all have atvs and i dont have room to carry both on atv. so i will bring the new pump

i would like to shoot my bird shot and have rifled slugs on hand for bear (as i see 1 a day while bird hunting). just dont know which choke to use to give me best for both loads. anyone hunt this way? any advice?

(for those unfamiliar with NW onatrio grouse hunting you drive roads and either see or hear them, then you stalk and shoot, avergae distance 25 yds and bear is usually done over bait but we have so many now you see them at dusk and dawn in the clear cuts looking for food)

I would guess modified would be worth a try. The only way to tell is shoot a few slugs and a few shot loads to check your pattern.

The only way to really find out what will work best is to experiment. Off to the range you go! :)

But, like iceman2 said, I'd start with the modified. Slugs often work best with IC chokes, but if you're shooting birds out to 25 yards, you'll want at least a modified I'd say. You never know though, some IC chokes still pattern nicely at that distance.
