I've searched for over a year now in 2 Provinces and 2 States trying to find a folding knife with a birdhook with no luck. I've shown several retailers catalouges but they all tld me they can't (Or won't) order one. So I decided to make my own, what do you think, will it work? It's long so I could try it on geese, but the hook is small enough for smaller birds too. I made it out of a car antanna, (sorry Captain2K) and a chunk of broom handle. The ball on the end should work to prevent snagging, or at least I hope. I should find out this week if it works or if I go back to the drawing board. :)

Looks good. The hook part may be a bit wide for smaller ducks and grouse though. Hard to tell the scale from the pic.

I've never pulled the guts from anything as large as a goose, but I can say for ducks and smaller, looks like it should work well. I used to make mine from a length of coat hanger until I found alternative ways of dressing them.

Kind a short, don't you think?:p
It's already a foot and a half long, so an extra 6" and you are good to go. That would work on everything from ostrich to woodcock.:p

Wonder what this is for, Hummingbird ?

You can find them on the eBay from time to time.

It's actually about 12" long and the hook is about an inch wide or so. If it's too long I can always cut it down, but I just wanted the extra length in case I can use it on bigger birds. I think it should work on whooping cranes, eagles and great horned owls too, if I'm careful. :p

Regardless the size, we want a video of its first use. Please.

I have a couple knives with the bird hook.
Had every intension of using it on them grouse, or pheasant, but never really needed to.

Maybe couldn't figure out what it might do better, than my fingers in the guts.

Uhhh...those are protected

Instead of a wooden handle, you can also bend the wire back for it form a S shape. You just hook it onto your index finger on one end, and butt hole the other.

I never seen a hook that big before, kinda scare to share a blind with you.

Oh come on, you've never tried crane after it's been marinated in JD mixed with honeygarlic over night with a side of penguin? You have not lived until you have. Mmmm.

If you're going through all that effort you may as well go all out and have seared spotted owl in lemon juice on those nice little crackers as an appetizer to complete the meal.
