I got my Labs in shape and I have my Mossberg pump .410 all ready to go. This year North Western Ontario has a very good grouse population. I will do my best to control the little devils. Just for fun I have two boxes of Imperial 2 1/2" .410 in #7 1/2 shot. These are paper hulls and in new condition. I love the smell of those paper hulls, takes me back to life on the farm as a boy. I hope other NW Ontario hunters are planning to go also.

cheers Darryl

Thank you!

So does ours. Took the dog out for a walk today in my favorite grouse woods- flushed 4 in less than an hour, AND the dog was on a leash. Whole whack of mallards in there too. Tomorow can't come soon enough.

Well my first time out, I got one and my father got one. we were just walkin an old logging road. "I heard a sound, looked over and caught a the sight of a grouse head booting around in the bush went in deep after it, tried sneakin up on him, said to my dad, well I am positive I saw a grouse! and as soon as I said that he took off but only to land in a tree 15 feet further in which I didn't see him till I was about 10 feet away from him"

I guess it's better then nothing. Very much enjoyed myself and might be going back out after dinner if I feel up to it. Want to get a few more and get some family over for a good bush chicken meal :D looking forward to trying it for the first time "ruffed grouse"
Good luck to all my other fellow hunter's out there!

I was thinking on roasting them as you would a shake N baked chicken breast with side dishes. I also like the sounds of that cheese recipe on here.

For my first time trying grouse I would like to aquire the full blown taste of it. Making a stew wouldn't do that. But that is a great suggestion! I love making stew's and will give that a try some time!
Do you have any special stew recipes dumbdawg?

Well I got four. It was very hot today. The dogs had a hard time scenting and most of the beaver ponds are dry and finding water for the dogs was tough. I have them in the oven now.(not the dogs) I prepared them as chicken cordon blue. A little ham some cheese and Bob's your uncle. I am gonna go again tomoroow. There were alot of guys and gals out hunting and it was good to see.
cheers Darryl

not realy just add what you like but grouse & rabbit go very well together

Thanks dumbdog. i'll definitely keep that combo in mind :)
Nothing tonight. saw a group of 6 all together and then a friggin truck came down the road and they all took off. Waited, could hear them moving around in the thick brush, but it was getting that time to leave :(
Oh well, I know where they are and will be back for em next time ;)
